Broken Promises
Laine walked past the table all set up for dinner and headed right upstairs. Andrew was a no show, having asked her to see a movie in town with him.
She had one day off this week and he'd ruined it as he never called either and wasn't answering her calls. She walked into his room and found it bare, he'd packed some clothes and departed for who knows where.
She headed down to see his father, Beta Nigel. What she learned hurt, as Beta Nigel said Andrew volunteered days ago to go help train at another pack.
Deep in her heart she knew, he did this deliberately so she'd be hurt. She thanked him for the details and told him she was heading home.
Two weeks later, there was still no word from Andrew, no returned calls because she did try. She left him dozens of messages he didn't bother returning, so she knew it was over.
She packed everything he'd ever left at her place and returned it to Beta Nigel. She didn't go back up in his room again.
She then asked for a transfer at work and when told yes, she packed her belongings up and moved. She ended up in Anchorage Alaska, far from him and still living in the States.
˜
Three years later, she got a transfer to Seattle Washington and settled in to her new environment. She was a she-wolf without the ability to shift. A reason why Andrew had never accepted her as his mate.
Well, not fully and she never told him that, not after him not accepting her. Since he never accepted her, when he went behind her back and partied, got drunk and slept with a girl he never considered it cheating, a betrayal or being unfaithful.
It just hurt more and the reason he liked to hurt her as there was no bond on his side. But it still hurt, deep. She may not feel it when he does cheat, but once she's told, it affected her.
That's why she left, she was 16 when she met him and 18 when she left. Two years and many tears during that time had fallen.
She worked full time after graduating at 16, her parents had disowned her at 15 and moved on. She hadn't been a member of the pack or any pack at all during her life since she couldn't shift.
But since she was bitten by a she-wolf in Alaska, things might have changed for the worse. Her bones were achy and she was getting a temper she'd never had before.
When it got really bad, she sat cross legged in her back yard and meditated. Three months later in Seattle, she'd been having a hell of a day, went home early and sat in her back yard, closed her eyes and meditated.
She drifted off and didn't hear when the she-wolf finally tracked her down again and entered her yard. The she-wolf bit her in the side, holding on tight, injecting her venom deep. Then ran away.
After fainting, Laine woke up to the ringing of her phone. She growled and shifted into her wolf. Her wolf sat down and talked to her after taking control of her body.
After agreeing to the demands of her wolf, she shifted back and grabbed her phone and headed inside before she was seen.
She showered and dressed for her day off, made herself a huge meal as she was starved and cleaned up. She called the cell phone of one Beta Nigel.
He yawned and she chuckled. He asked who was calling and she said it's Laine MCord. He sighed and asked what can I possibly do for you Laine?
She heard a growl in the background so she said first, I'd like to request you go somewhere private. This call is very personal. He huffed and said alright.
