Erica Felicia
Broken Promises
Time wasn't an issue with Erica anymore.
It all started back when she 16, she shifted and found her one true mate. The only problem was, he was in a relationship and was in no hurry to end it, even for his one true mate.
So Erica was at loose ends. She, according to her true mate would just have to wait. So she stopped going to the pack house so she didn't have to see her mate Chase and his weak she-bitch Ainsley together.
It had been so simple. But she hadn't heard that once you look into your mate's eyes, the mate bond would connect. She felt sick to her stomach.
Her brother Templeton told her that drinking alcohol could work. So she started working at a pub, because she didn't quite believe him and needed to stop staring at the four corners of her room every night wondering what they were doing.
She looked older then 16, a friend helped her make a University ID card. He was into such things and she didn't ask why.
She loved the job, it gave her a new outlet in her life instead of always thinking about Chase. By then she was already on her last few months of high school. Yeah, she was smart.
She worked Thursday through Sunday nights, and went to school too. It wasn't an issue, her parents were in bed by 10 and she was normally out then anyways so they didn't notice.
After graduating high school, she kept her job and increased her hours when asked to work them. Then Jonas walked in one night. He was a tracker he said, hunting down people.
They got to talking each time he came through, when he stopped in, just shooting the breeze, being friendly. Over time, Erica relaxed because by then it had been so long since she'd seen Chase that the mate connection was fading to dust.
But on the week after her 18th birthday, she was ordered to attend a meeting. She took the night off, had to because the meeting was held at night.
She got smart, and never made eye contact with anyone. She covered her scent and stuffed up her nose so she couldn't smell and went to the meeting.
She stood in the back as the back yard at the pack house yard packed with people. There she heard that Chase and Ainsley were engaged to be married.
They weren't true mates so marking each other wouldn't work. Only true mate's can mark their mates because the mate mark wouldn't stay embedded in their skin otherwise.
She left the meeting, bright eyed as she was angry, she was left hanging around while those two were playing house.
By the time she got home, she knew she would never be with her true mate like he said. She was definitely not waiting around for him.
She packed her bags, called her boss and quit, then loaded her car. She wrote a note for her brother and one for her parents. Both said she was leaving with her individual goodbyes.
She drove away, renouncing her ties to the pack as she crossed the border and vanished.
~❦~
Skip three years, she was 21, single, living on her own and working at a job she loved.
She had casual friends she went out with, ate the odd meal with and partied with. Then Jonas walked in, looking frazzled. He sat down at the bar and ordered a drink.
Long story short, she took him home with her. He was drunk, so she stripped him down, shoved him in her bed and she slept on the couch.
In the morning, she made a huge breakfast, poured herself a coffee and watched him come out of the bedroom sniffing the air.
