"Okay guys, great session! See you tomorrow."
We walked off the training mats as Neil ended the class. I took off my gloves and put them in my equipment bag. I sat down heavily, exhausted. I drank from my water bottle and joined in the after-class conversation with my mates. Tonight's class had been boxing, and Aaron jokingly told Amira , the only girl in the class and my best friend, that she punched like a girl.
She laughed. "That's a good thing, it's better than punching like you." She did a feeble impression of Aaron, which got a laugh. He smiled and playfully punched her arm. The conversation moved on to a recent Conor McGregor fight, and we all packed up to go home. I walked out of the door to wait for Amira. Everyday, after lesson,  i would walk her home. We lived on the same street so we were pretty much always seeing each other, and we were in the same classes at school too. She came out and smiled at me. She gave Aaron and Toby hugs and then walked over to me smiling.
"Hey." She said
"Hey." I said back, returning a smile. Me and Amira had never dated, and we never would, but we had been closer than average friends ever since we first met, at boxing when we were 6. All the boys in our class and our school knew she was special, and nearly all had a crush on her. I didn't, though, but I loved her to bits.Even though she was a boxer too, I protected her and surprisingly, she protected me . Even as we walked home now, every teenage boy we passed stared at her. She was stunning, and I frequently told her. She had long dark hair, that she braided for boxing to keep out of her face, blue eyes and freckles over the bridge of her nose. When the 3rd boygawped at her, she did what we both did when were were uncomfortable, she grabbed my hand. We had been doing this for years, and it worked. We knew each other so well, we could tell what the other was feeling, "The Sixth Sense" we called it. Sure enough, when he saw Amira holding my hand, he looked away. We both burst out laughing. We got to her house, and i dropped her off. Her dad answered the door before she could knock and smiled at me
"Jay, what did you think of the McGregor match?" He said. We talked about it enthusiastically for 5 minutes and then I went home. I liked Amira's family, and they always made me feel welcome. I said hello to my own family, showered, ate my dinner, then went to bed.
