"Harper, come back."
I rushed in the bathroom belonging to Megan's parents and slammed the door making sure it was locked. I collapsed into heaps on the floor, not the most hygienic place but I didn't care.
It was Megan's fourteenth birthday, everybody was here celebrating and having fun but he had to ruin it, he always done spoil things for me.
"Harper come on, we all know he didn't mean to say any of it the way he did." Megan's vocals sounded through the other side of the door.
I silenced my sobs and viciously rubbed at my sore eyes. "He completely embarrassed me."
"He does that to everybody, it's just how Luke behaves, he's loud, abrupt, overly confided and he speaks way before he thinks but that's him."
"I hate him!" I screamed towards the door as I felt tears start to stream down my face again.
"No you don't, maybe he's playing a classic and being rude to you because he likes you." Megan suggested to which I hastily scoffed.
"Please, the only person Luke likes it himself, its bad enough I've never had a boyfriend but he didn't need to point that out, to everyone."
She pulled down on the door handle but when realising it was locked she let her grip lighten. "Harper, listen. We're still at a young age, we have our whole life ahead of us, I've barely hit puberty and you certainly haven't with those small...never mind. The point is, that it doesn't matter that you haven't had a boyfriend before because one day you're gonna live a luxurious life in a massive castle and you'll be together forever because your relationship we be based on love, true love. No booty calls or ridiculous one night stands. I hope your future boyfriend is your first and last and that you've got a bond that cannot be broken by anything or anyone."
I melted at her words, she really was a true friend. "You really think that'll happen to me?"
"Who knows for sure Harps, but if you have enough hope and faith, anything's possible, now stop crying and come enjoy my party."
I sighed and got off the floor to look at the grey rimmed mirror. I grimaced towards my current appearance. My cheeks were flushed bright red and my makeup was smudged and blotchy. My clothes were twisted and my shirt was hanging uncomfortably off of my right shoulder. "Megan you're so right, I'm coming out now."
I twisted the knob and came out to see Megan stood right outside the white door. "Oh don't worry Harper, I think they're cutting the cake."
I playfully rolled my eyes. "Ah yes, this generations problems are always solved by either cake or animal videos."
