A/N i'm so sorry for my inability to spell tomorrow. It's late and I suck at spelling when i'm not falling asleep, let along when I am.

Third person POV.
When Niki woke up the next morning she felt still tired. Her walk with the Doctor must have been more tiring than she thought it would be. She didn't want to go to school, but she really had no choice. So she headed out the door. She was 10 minuets early because she didn't like being in the house alone. She walked around to the back if her house, and saw the TARDIS parked there.
She smiled to herself, but knew she had to go to school today. She'd told her mom she was going to the library after school, so she might be home a little late. She turned around and walked to her bus stop, ready for Friday at school.
The Doctor's POV.
She walked away from the TARDIS smiling, she had come to see if I'd left, which of course I hadn't. I still wouldn't risk going too far into the future. I'd slept restlessly during the night, havering nightmares of the time war, and her screams for help, help that I couldn't give her.
I much prefer to be awake, so I simply stared at the screen watching her sweet little face peering around the corner and lighting up. I wanted her to come over immediately so we could be off, but she under stood that school was important, and I hadn't explained to her about the time machine thing. I waited, I decided I might as well think of how to explain it to her.
The house was empty, and because I am a stupid idiot and far too curious to stay put in the TARDIS, I went in Niki's house and found her fobwatch. I could hear it whispering that the time to return is near, and I smiled my approval.
I took it back to my TARDIS and sat down on the jump seat studying it. The words engraved on it in circular gallifreyan was her name 'Nimboo' a little silly to humans, but a graceful name on Gallifrey. It means 'peacemaker' and 'dancer'.
NIKI'S POV.
I was in sixth hour staring at the clock, counting down until it was time to leave for the weekend, and for me, a good daylight reunion with the stranger from my dreams. He was always running, maybe now I could have a chance to run with him.
The bell rang and everyone stood up at once, charging up the stairs to get to lockers, then leaping down to sprint out the door. I just managed to catch the bus, and found a seat with a stranger. When we finally arrived at my bus stop I sprinted across the pavement, racing my thoughts to the little flagstone path to my backyard.
I ran beneath the row of back porches. I saw the TARDIS, and ran toward it, but then it was gone. Just like that, it flashed, and was gone, and I was left alone, with the shadows.
The Doctor's POV.
Her face, I was tied to the jumpseat staring helplessly at her distraught face and betrayed eyes as River took the TARDIS to the vortex.
"River, why?" I whispered, barely hiding the tears and strain in my voice.
"Because she's a child. I can't let you do that to a child. She's not your sister, she's human."
"But River, she is, and I can prove it, just let me!" I was screaming at her, the tears now streaming down my face.
"No, you can't. You know better too."
"But I can!" I persisted, working the fobwatch out of my pocket. When I finally got it out And showed River, she growled lightly, and turned around to continue flying the TARDIS. She looked at me, her ever frightening death glare piercing me, then pressed some buttons on her vortex manipulator and was gone. That left me, tied to my jump seat.
Then the screen came back on, and I saw Niki looking up with red eyes and a tear stained face. She looked aged by her sadness, and it hurt my hearts to look at her. Then she stood up, and I saw only anger in her small blue eyes. Then she turned and walked away, just left. I worked my sonic out of my pocket and finally broke the ropes tying me to my jumpseat, and I looked at my watch, it was only a few hours after I'd left, why was she so upset?
I opened the doors and walked out, the small pond was frozen over, and the frosty grass crackled beneath my feet. That couldn't be good, it was the end of summer when I'd left.

A/N this takes place just before 'The Doctor, The widow, and The wardrobe'
Sorry about River's attitude, she will warm up to Niki and stop smacking the Doctor so much eventually...
