CHAPTER 1: Unexpected Visitors

Annelise:

The sun was shining and the light rays were on my face. I woke up hearing the chirping of the birds, the clock's alarm and the honking of some vehicles outside my apartment. I wonder why it was so noisy that people were like seeing some celebrities outside. I got out of my bed, stood up, stretched my arms and yawned. I checked myself on the mirror..nothing's change. I am still that Annelise Johnson Koch who just lost a family two months ago on my birthday. The thought of losing them on a special day was killing me.

I sighed. Everything was still so fresh to me. United States of America, my parents, my brother, my birthday, the call, the tragic car accident, the hospital, the funeral..everything!

It has been a week since I arrived in Denmark. I came to the country to find some relatives from my father's side because I haven't met anyone of them and of course I need a family after what happened in America. I just heard about them once from my father, that they're living somewhere in the City where he grew up. My mother was an orphaned so I wasn't expecting I can find some relatives from her side.

I was so alone, empty, shattered and broken. Sometimes I thought of just ending my life so I could get over with what I was feeling. I was physically alive but mentally and emotionally dead because I never imagined myself being left out by my own family, the people I loved so much and cherished a lot. I always asked God "why ?" "why it has to be me?" "what is Your purpose for taking away my family?" and "why them?" I haven't receiving His answer yet...I do know everything happens for a reason and that He has plans for me, great plans but still, I am in total denial with my situation.

I looked outside my window, checked why everyone was so noisy and then I saw a limousine parked in front of my building where my apartment was. People were looking at the car and the two men surrounding it. They were in a uniform, something like those that I can only see in fairytale movies, movies about Kings, Queens and castles. I noticed that the limo has flags in front which I couldn't explain the images..the limo was black and so elegant. From my point of view, it might be someone popular and powerful visiting a neighbor.

To my surprise, my doorbell rang and got curious. I didn't know anyone in Denmark so who might be outside looking for me? I nervously went to the door and opened it. I was shocked to see two men standing outside..one was someone who look exactly like the men I just saw outside near the limo and beside him was not so tall but very sophisticated old man on a business attire, holding an attaché case. They looked at my agitated face and smiled at me. That very moment, I knew that the noise outside was because of me.

"Good morning. I am looking for Ms. Koch."

I didn't answer him back, I just stared at him like I never heard anything.

"Are you Ms. Koch?"

The old man asked and smiled afterwards. I didn't know them so how am I supposed to answer back? I thought. I looked at them with curiosity and then shut the door. They rang the doorbell again..once..twice..thrice....and when i thought they were decided not to stop i opened the door for them again.

"Who the hell are you?! both of you?!" "What do you want?" I irritably shouted at them, with my arms crossed, chin up and curved eyebrows.
