CHAPTER 13: Letter from Heaven
Annelise:
My eyes were sore and red and floppy when I opened them. I didn't realized I was heavily crying the whole night until I fell asleep. Laura came in holding a tray of hot tea with loaves and a blueberry jam.
"Good morning Princess Annelise."
She smiled sweetly showing me the tray she was holding.
"I wish it is really a good morning for me Laura."
"It will be Princess, please be strong for someone like me. S-sooner or later y-you will become our Queen and I wanted you to be strong, Princess." she smiled again and vowed her head.
"T-thank you Laura, I appreciated your thoughtfulness."
I woke up from my bed, walk towards the tea table and sat on the chair. Laura then followed me and put the tray on the table. She stood next to me while I was staring at the beautiful morning sky.
"Laura...."
"Yes Princess?"
"Please sit."
"B-but... P-prin...."
"It's fine with me. I don't want to drink a cup of tea while you are standing there watching me. Join me, I insist."
She then slowly sat on the chair in front of me and was still vowing her head as a sign of respect. I smiled at her and poured hot tea in her cup.
"Drink with me Laura.."
"T-thank you Princess."
She sipped a little and went to vowing her head again.
"Laura, please stop doing it whenever we're alone together. You can be you, just you.. looking at me while talking to me."
She looked at me and lowered her head again.
"Princess, your eyes are sore.. I might get you embarrassed seeing them like that. "
I laughed and stood up. I reached for my sun glasses, wear them and went back sitting opposite her.
"I think this will look good on me."
She looked at me and smiled shyly. I sipped a little from my cup and went back staring at the sky.
"Laura... D-do you think I will become a great Queen of this country? D-do you think marrying the guy I don't love will make me a better person?"
She was stunned for a moment.. sipped from her cup and sighed.
"Princess, this is an honor for me to drink a cup of tea with you in a beautiful morning and asked by such questions. Answering those is tough. I t-think you should do w-whatever your heart desires."
"T-that is what my father was telling me."
I suddenly felt tears would fall down from my eyes again thinking about my father.
"F-forgive me Princess, I d-didn't mean to--"
"It's okay Laura."
I smiled at her and started spreading the blueberry jam on the loaf.
"W-what was your family look like, Princess? Your father? your mother? and your---- P-please forgive me again Princess, I'm being careless."
I stopped what I was doing the moment I heard her asking me those.. I knew she felt embarrassed when she saw me staring at the loaf after hearing her questions. I put it down, held her hands and took out a deep breath. She looked at me with so much sympathy and I smiled at her.
