CHAPTER 10: Point of No Return
Andrei:
I woke up on a fine Sunday morning with a beautiful view of Copenhagen and the sky horizon from my hotel room. I sat on the couch that was facing the terrace and silently relaxed myself. I missed Denmark for months and I was feeling happy that I was finally back in the beautiful country after being in different places of the world. I continued scanning the view until a bunch of newspapers and magazines that were placed in front of me caught my attention. I flipped the pages, put them back to the table and smiled. My right hand, Anton Schultz might left those for me to know what was the fuss in the country.
"It's been three months since I last left you Denmark" I whispered to myself and stood up.
I called Anton to prepare the car for I planned to check out from the hotel, go back to my real home and have an exciting life there. I went straight to my room after arriving in my place and checked everything that was there.. from the bouquet of blue flowers that was placed in my table, to my bed, to the walls with different framed recognition awards hanging there and to the framed pictures I am always keeping as my room decorations.
Those pictures of me with my parents, me with my uncle and my aunt, me with my cousin and me with her.... the most special girl in my life..
"You really never fail to surprise us my dear cousin. You always do what you want, going back home without warning." I put down the last framed picture after hearing the voice behind me. I turned around and faced the owner of that voice.
"Well, you always do what you want.. barging in my room just like seconds ago." we laughed and I threw my back on my bed then stared at the ceiling. My cousin moved forward and sat on a couch beside my bed.
"So.. how are you walking library? What's new?" my cousin threw a pillow on me then giggled. I hugged it and smiled. My cousin is fond of calling me by walking library because my cousin always thought I am smart and an excellent being.
"Hmmm... nothing much! All is well except about the chaos I heard after arriving here" I threw the pillow on my cousin's face then went back staring at the ceiling.
"How is that person? You know who?" I put my hands on the back of my head.
"Errr.. don't ask me."
"Why? I actually find that person very nice." I closed my eyes and waited for my cousin to respond.. 1 second, 2 seconds until 6 seconds of silence.
"Have you came face to face with that person? How come you find that person like what you just said?" My cousin sarcastically laughed, stood up and heard walking back and forth in front of me.
"Lets say.. I'm just telling what I can tell. Are you getting along with that person?" I was still closing my eyes and waiting for my cousin's next respond.
"What is this? Why did you...... " I opened my eyes and looked at my cousin who was holding the framed picture I put down when my cousin barged in. It was still facing down when I rushed greeted my cousin.
"Stop." My cousin was shocked with my sudden action, looked at me with questioning eyes but then left it facing down and I released my cousin's arms.
"Ha-ha! You are really one of a kind Andreas. You are still secretive and discreet that is why girls in Denmark are crazy over you." my cousin was laughing but the facial expression was having curiousity.
"They are crazy over you and not me. Stop throwing me your pretentious hobby, casanova" I laughed.
"I know you are very much reserved but that is so boring Andreas. Yes I am pretending I am a casanova to get rid of the marriage arrangement but there's one thing I realized.. hanging out with them is helping me forget what I am going through nowadays. Well even at least for hours. You should join me one time." my cousin tapped my back and moved forward to the door.
"Thanks but no thanks, And.. the next time you barged in my room I won't forgive you." my cousin didn't turn his face on me, my cousin just raised his both hands and continued walking towards the door.
"Whatever Andreas. You always forgive me." he opened the door and turned to face me.
"Oh! By the way.. Welcome back. It was great seeing you here again in the Palace." then my cousin went out.
Yes, my cousin is the Crown Prince of Denmark Edvard Henriksen and yes, I am Andreas Henriksen, also a Prince of Denmark.
I didn't realize that time flew so fast since I arrived in the Palace. It was already 10 o'clock when I decided to went out of my room for a walk and visited every areas of the Palace that I missed the most. The Palace, it was where my ancestors', my father's childhood and my childhood memories lived.. It was the place I called home and I am falling in love with it over and over again.
I continued walking until I reached the Princess' court and then I suddenly remembered Edvard's fiancé.. I scanned the place and found that it was a place every girl would desire with a man made river in front of it and a garden a few steps away.. everything was beautifully crafted and it was rebuilt just for her, the so-called future Queen of Denmark.
I came to know about the covenant of His highness with the late King and the late royal guard when I was 18 at the time I was leaving Denmark for another country. I accidentally passed by the late King's court one Saturday afternoon and heard him talking to King Erik that they were decided to reveal about the covenant to Edvard when the latter turned 21. Even I, didn't understand why they had to do such thing to my cousin, I had so much questions in my mind and left that moment a mystery for I know one day I'll surely get the answer for it.
I was at my reminiscing situation when I suddenly saw a lady went out of her room.. I knew that moment that she was Annelise Koch, the lady my cousin Edvard refused to marry. She was wearing simple clothing and was walking fast so I hid myself behind the huge pillar and continued watching her then I realized where she was heading to. I called Anton to hurriedly park my car at the entrance after Annelise's car got out of the Palace. He then followed my instruction and I successfully found her car at the road, carefully convoying her wherever she went.
It was a bit awkward for me to hid myself and followed her everywhere because people were noticing what I was doing and the lady seemed unaware about it until she visited one of the famous places in the country. I found myself walking in the middle of the street and people were starting to notice my real identity. My huge sunglasses weren't helping me and I was afraid Annelise will soon realized I was following her. I didn't want her to know that people were starting to whisper at each other, pointing at me and then to her so I decided to reveal myself when she turned her back..
I stopped walking and waited for her to notice me.. She was still scanning her surrounding when I fixed myself making sure that people wouldn't 100 percent realized I am Prince Andreas.. I also hoped they wouldn't realized that the lady was Annelise. I stood firmly and watched her come nearer and nearer until her gaze finally stopped......
at the middle........
where I was standing and smiling at her........
in the street of Stroget.......
She then realized who I was......
My best friend, Liz... Annelise Johnson Koch... was running towards me with her biggest smile....
I sighed and thought of how could I ever let her know that she was my heart's desire and I am at the point of no return.
