Chapter 12

Recap:
'Maya, this is where we first met'

*flashback* ( in third person )

6 year old Maya and her best friend, Riley were in philly visiting Riley's grandparents. The two best friends decided to go to the park.

Riley squealed as she saw a swing. 'Maya push me! Push me!' Riley yelled as she ran towards, Maya giggled at her best friend, and ran after her.

Just as Riley sat down on the swing, she saw her little uncle Joshua running towards her. Riley squealed yet again before jumping off the swing and running towards him. Maya on the other hand was extremely confused. Who was that little boy? She questioned herself.

'Uncle joshie, I missed you' Riley said as she hugged him, 'Me too' Josh said, he treated her like his own little sister even though she really is his niece. 'Come on, you have to meet my best friend' Riley said taking his hand and leading him to where Maya was.

'Maya this is my uncle joshie' Riley said to her best friend excitedly, Maya became even more confused. 'How is he your uncle?' Maya asked Riley, reading her thoughts out loud. 'he's my daddy's little brother' Riley said, Maya still couldn't believe how a little boy can be someone's uncle.

'My name is Joshua' josh said sticking his hand out, like a gentlemen. 'I'm Maya' Maya said shyly before shaking his hand. She was shy, Maya was never shy around anyone but little Joshua changed it.

Suddenly the 8 almost 9 year old Joshua couldn't help himself before reaching out and pinching Maya's cheeks, 'your so cute' he said

Maya's POV

I smiled at the memory as I looked around the park. It has changed. A lot. Just like our life's. 'I remember' I said looking back at Josh, a smiled appeared on his face.

'Come on, let's go inside' but Josh immediately protested, 'we can't go in there, it's closed' he said. 'Stop acting like a girl and follow my lead' I said rolling my eyes before approaching the the small gate, it's high only reached up to my hip. 'I'm not following your lead, it's-' Josh started but stopped himself as he saw me jump. I turned around to face him, 'come on jump' I said, he kept staring at me without even moving. 'Josh' that brought him back to reality. 'Cmon Josh your in college, boys in your age does this all the time' I said to him crossing my arms around my chest, impatiently waiting for him to come to the other side.

He stared at me for a moment, before signing and I swore I heared him say 'what are you doing to me?'. Part of me wanted to question him about what was that that but part of me knew it would be awkward. So I decided to let it go.

He finally jumped and came to my side. I walked over and plopped into the grass, 'your turn' I said looking up at him grinning. He chuckled and slowly sat down on the grass, 'oh no not like that. Lay down, the sky look beautiful' I said patting the spot beside me.

Josh' POV ( A/N: surprised? Me too)

I took a deep breath as I laid down beside Maya. I turned my head to see her staring at the stars, her eyes twinkling by the moonlight that was shining brightly on her face. She looked like a rare piece of art and art was supposed to make you feel something. She certainly did to me.

Nothing else mattered right now. it was just me, her and the moon.

'Wow it's beautiful' she said as her ocean eyes widen, 'yeah so beautiful' I replied mostly talking about her. 'So how did you and Britney meet?' She asked, I signed forcing myself to tear my eyes away from her face.

Why did she have to bring that red head up?

Maya's POV

I heard him sign before answering me, 'at a party' he said, I felt a lump forming in my throat. 'Was it love at first time?' I whispered knowing if I speak up my voice will crack. I closed my eyes afraid of the answer he's gonna give me. 'No-' there was small pause before he continued 'I don't like her, she's just a distraction and I know that she's using me too' he confessed.

'A distraction from what?' I asked him I finally looked at him to see he was already looking at me. 'Well there's this girl I want to like but I can't have feelings for her. So Britney is my distraction' he said looking deeply at my eyes, 'I wonder who she is' I said thinking he would tell me, he just chuckled 'trust me, I'm dying to tell everyone'.

We both sat up

'Whys Britney using you for?' I asked remembering what he said, 'well I kind of have reputation in the college and ride a motorcycle so if she's with me, she's popular too' he said proudly. 'Joshua Matthews a college bad boy, who could've thought' I teased him, I saw his face redden. 'Dude bad boys don't blush' I smirked at him as I pinched his cheeks, 'I'm not blushing' he said slapping my hands away. I erupted with aloud laughter. But was stopped by my thoughts bursting my bubble.

Joshua Matthews a college bad boy. It made me attract to him even more.

Suddenly his watch beeped signaling us that it officially midnight. 'We should get going hart' Josh said as he got up and gave me his hand to help me up. I groaned, 'I don't wanna go' i whined.
'Well too bad' he said as he bent down and pulled me up before throwing me over his shoulder. 'Put me down Matthews' I screamed as my fist slammed into his back. 'Not happening' he calmly said.

He carried me to the gate and put me down. We both jumped out and went over to his bike and climbed to the seats. He started the bike and rode off.
I yet again let the warm summer wind hit my face. God it was the best feeling ever.

Josh slowed down the bike as we got in front of Matthews resident. He stopped at the spot where it was on. I quickly hoped out of the bike,

'Maya' he said, the way he said my name made my heart flatter. 'Josh' I mocked him, 'I had a great time' he said smiling making my heart skip, God his smile was a butterfly effect on my heart.

'Me too Josh' I said smiling at him, as I turned around but was stopped by him again. 'Even though you didn't exactly showed me who Maya hart really is' he said and I could feel he's smirking. I turned around and walked up to him.

I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him closer to me, I stared at his eyes for few seconds before moving my face to his ear. 'Maybe next time' I whispered with a smirk before looking at his face, I stared at him biting my lip, his eyes were widened as he stared back at me. 'Good night Josh' I whispered, as I leaned and kissed his cheek before unwrapping myself from him.

I walked back to the house leaving a every confused Josh behind me.

I feel like I'm only showing Maya's feelings about Josh not Lucas but wait till the next two chapters. 😏
