Chapter 8

Maya's POV

After Lucas came and interrupted mine and zay's conversation, he had officially started to ignore Zay.
Zay being Zay, he kept annoying him.

We finally arrived at Grand Matthews'. We got out of the cars and Riley didn't even let me go inside before she dragged me away from everyone.

'Riley why we're out here? We're supposed to me inside with others' I told her looking at her curiously, she grabbed my shoulders and looked at me dead in the eyes. She only looks at me like that when somethings really wrong.

Uh uh whatever she's gonna say it's gonna be real deep.

'Maya whatever happens inside, I'm here right beside you, okay?' she said to me giving me an 'I'm sorry' expression. 'Riles I don't get it' I said to feeling anxious, 'do you trust me?' She said me, 'more than anyone in the world' I said. 'Good' that's all she said before grabbing my hand and leading me to the front door.

The door was wide open, and we both stepped inside. Even though we just arrived, everyone was already having fun. I don't know what Riley's so worried about.

My eyes wondered around the room until it caught the site of someone that made me feel something that I can't explain, I don't think I will ever be able to explain that feeling.

Josh

He was there smiling and talking to someone, I was too busy looking at him to even bother to look who he was talking to, until he reached and stroked that person's cheek.
I shifted my eyes to see a girl, I've never seen before. She had on a really short yellow dress with red really high heels. She was a red head. I'm gonna go ahead and do what every girl does.

I was nothing compared to her.

Josh looked at her like the way I want him to look at me. The way I look at him.
Just as I was about to look away she smashed her lips to his. The pain I had in my heart was indescribable.

'I'm right here for you' Riley whispered to me and I realized that I was squeezing her hand this entire time. I just looked at her and forced a weak smile.

'Oh my look at you two!' I heard a very familiar voice saying, I looked up to see grandma Matthews coming up to us with her arms open. 'Grandma' Riley screamed like 4 year old before running into her arms. I let Riley have her moment before going up to grandma.

'Maya come here' Grandma said turning to me and opening her arms. i wrapped my arms around her and signed, letting her sweet soul comfort me and my sadness. 'Look at you two all grown up to gorgeous ladies' she said pulling away. 'We missed you' I said to her pouting, 'yeah grandma we haven't seen you in a year' Riley said.

'So you didn't miss me?' Grandpa said appearing behind Riley. 'Grandpa' this time we both screamed and hugged him. 'We gonna have so much fun this summer' he said pulling away. 'Yay' Riley yelled.

'Hey niece' Josh approached us and said to Riley. 'Hey uncle Josh' Riley said just giving him a nod, 'what no hugs for me?' He asked her confused. 'No' Riley said letting out a awkward giggle, 'Oh okay' he said awkwardly.

That's when he saw me, 'hey' he said to me like i was someone he haven't met before. 'Hi' I said smiling weakly. He just nodded, then that red head came to his side, as soon as he saw her, a smile appeared on his face.

'Riley, I'd like you to meet my girlfriend Britney' Josh introduced the red head to Riley, he acted like I don't even exist.

'Hi Riley, Josh have told me so much about you' the red head aka Britney said to Riley, 'ohh really? Too bad Josh never said anything about you with me' Riley replied with a innocent smile. Her reply almost made me laugh. 'Riley' Josh said in a warning tone, 'what I'm just telling the truth' Riley shrugged.

Riley wrapped her arm around my shoulder, 'oh and this is my honored sister Maya' Riley introduced me to her, the red head looked at me up and down. 'Josh isn't she the girl who's father has left?' She asked him with innocent expression.

Oh no she did not.

I opened my mouth to say something but I was interrupted by someone placing their arm around me, 'no her father is right here' I heard shawns voice. I looked at him smiling as I whispered a thank you.

Ha in ya face Britney.

'Gabby lets go upstairs' Britney said to Josh batting her eye lashes, gabby really?, I looked at Riley and rolled my eyes while Riley just let out a small giggle. This Britney makes me cringe. 'Sure babe' Josh replied and took her hand leading her upstairs. I saw him looking at me for splits seconds before turning his attention back to the red head.

Please don't tell me these two are spending the summer together here. Because I don't think I can handle this much pain.

Me and Riley took a seat beside our friends, 'you okay?' Farkle asked me all of a sudden, 'yeah why wouldn't I be?' I asked him, flashing a fake smile. Damn I should win an award for fake smiling . 'If you say so' he said shrugging.

After that I got a text from an unknown number saying to come outside. I looked at Riley to see her lost in a conversation with Farkle. Without thinking twice I went.

Just as I got out of the house, I saw Lucas standing there leaning to a tree with his hands on his pocket.

'Lucas did you sent me the text?' I asked him approaching him, 'yeah,we need to talk' he said turning around to look at me.

'Lucas-' I was cut of by 'please I just want to talk' he said looking at me with a 'I'm begging you' expression.

'Okay fine'

So just to clear up, Maya and Josh isn't playing the long game in this story.

The Josh part was something I experienced in real life so I tried to put the feeling into words.
