PART ONE
Phil's POV:
"Come on, Phil. Please?" Hunter pleads.
"I don't know. I'll have to ask Dan first," I say.
He rolls his eyes. "Are you not allowed to make your own decisions or something? Its your life."
"I never thought of it that way," I respond.
He does have a point...
"Just make something up. Please, please, please, Phil?" he continues to plead.
"I guess I could go," I sigh in defeat. "Just for a little while though."
Hunter's face lights up with excitement. "Yay! Thanks, Phil," he says as he reaches over to give me a hug. I smile.
The substitute teacher gives us a tired look but doesn't tell us anything.
"What should I tell Dan?" I ask as I take out my phone.
"Leave it to me." Hunter takes my phone and types for a few seconds. Once he's done he hits send and then shows me the message.
To: Danny 💕
'Hey Danny. I'm staying a few hours after school to catch up on a class. You go on ahead without me. I'll get home on my own. 💚'A small knot of guilt forms in my stomach. I hate lying to him.
"We're going to have so much fun!" Hunter exclames.
"Please quiet down, mister," says the sub with a sign.
"Oops sorry," blushes Hunter.
Dan's POV:
"Are you sure you don't need me to pick you up? I'll wait in the car if you don't want me to go to class with you," I tell Phil.
"Really, Dan. I'll be fine. I'm going to take a long time. Just go and I'll call you when I get home," Phil says while playing with his sleeves.
Why would Phil need to catch up on a class the day before spring break?
We're already packed up and ready to leave our last class. Phil keeps fidgeting and checking the time on his phone.
"Phil."
"What?" he answers without looking at me.
"Phil, look at me," I say as I reach out to lift his chin up. "What-"
The stupid bell interrupts my question.
Why does it always have to be the bell??
Phil grabs his backpack and gets up quickly. "I have to go. I'll text you," he bends down and gives me a quick peck. "Bye!" he says as he practically runs out the door.
I just sit there (in silence).
Why is he in such a rush?
I finally get up, grab my things, and walk to my car. Normally, Phil and I would be one of the last ones out to the parking lot so that we don't get caught in the mob of students trying to leave. Today is different. I find myself getting pushed around in the crowded hallway. Once I finally make it out, I am confronted by yet another problem. The parking lot is packed with students since there's a football game and tomorrow is the first day of spring break. (We have a whole week off.) To make things worse, my car is parked in the middle of all the traffic that everyone is causing.
I guess I'll wait for Phil to get out of his class.
I get in my car and turn on the a.c. (its so hot today wtf). I play music and just wait.
