The sound of wooden practice swords clashing against each other made up most of Kris' Monday mornings. As a part of the nobility, teens like Kris were expected to be good in combat with their style and weapon of choice. Monsters lurked outside their kingdom, Terra; and so they had to be able to defend themselves.
On that account, many had noticed Kris' great potential. He was the best in their class, and almost in every knight the kingdom had seen. Easily spotted with his silver hair, pale complexion, and deathly red eyes, he was someone who was always watched by the spectators. It was a bit annoying to him really, but it was part of being strong.
Training and classes end halfway through the afternoon, and Kris would just walk back to their home. He could hail a carriage, but he seemed to choose walking most of the time. Being pampered and privileged felt boring to someone with a built like his. Yet he had to comply with most things nobilities had to do in their kingdom.
On his way home, he noticed a familiar man standing among the other knights. He was rarely spotted out there in the open, being a man of his rank. He was the Commander of the Knights of the Mystic Woods, Aragon. The man with a face aged with experience felt the peculiar student gawking at them. He smiled at him from a distance and bid goodbye to the knights he was chatting.
Kris knew the man was going towards him so he stood straight and waited. He watched Aragon give him a small bow given to nobles before asking, "Are you waiting for me, Commander?"
"I knew you figure that out." He chuckled. "I want to proceed with formalities, but you might want to make this quick. I want you to come with me to the Mystic Woods, Kris."
"Why?"
"Powerful monsters are outside, and we need your help in clearing the area." Aragon recalled the smile. He stared at Kris who looked puzzled.
"You're asking a noble to fight something knights cannot defeat," he answered briefly. "Why do you think I can help you?"
Aragon looked around before whispering, "Because you have a Fragment of Destruction inside you, Kris. You're stronger than what you think. Come help us kill the powerful monsters outside Terra."
The Fragment of Destruction, it was a piece of the God of Destruction given to a short list of seven chosen people in the whole continent of Asgar. It was a surefire tool to give a person magnificent strength and skills in combat. Only a few knew that Kris had one hidden inside his body. With this problem at hand, they sounded like they want to find out how strong a fragment really is.
"Fine." Kris started walking ahead towards the gates. "I'll help out until the sun sets. I don't want my parents asking about my whereabouts."
"I think we'll be done before that." Aragon chuckled.
Kris snorted softly, making sure the Commander would not hear him. However, he paused in his tracks when he felt something started pounding inside him. It was not his heart; it was the fragment. Maladaptive thoughts enthralling him to kill the innocent around him raced inside his head. He only put a hand over his chest and fought the voices away. This was the first time he ever felt like this, and somehow, he figured it could be the reason.
Without another second of thinking, Kris moved to a full sprint towards the gates leading to the Mystic Woods. He ran past the knights who tried to verbally stop him from going. It was dangerous out there. However, Kris had the most valid reason he could ever have.
Another fragment was out there, and he had to find it.
