It was nothing new when the day after the party was spent by Kris and Rudy, hunting in the Mystic Woods; they were thankful alcohol did not make their heads spin in the morning. Like usual, they hunted not using their swords- but with the bow and arrows. It was a thing for the nobles, and Kris was just playing this sport with his closest friend. With the mushrooms going wild yet again and approaching the gates of Kingdom Terra, the Knights of Light ended up playing at the same time they should be doing their jobs. Their gears were with them after all.
Hooves tapped multiple times against rocks as Kris' horse tried to get to a stable stance. The terrain was ravaged again by monsters attacking lone carriages. There were no one badly hurt for now, but they could not wait things to go that bad. However, the horses were able to cross to deeper parts of the woods without much problem. The two then noticed the natives of the Mystic Woods gathering in the middle of a grassy area.
"Aren't they supposed to be disorganized creatures?" Rudy hummed as they watched the group come to an argument. The brunet turned to his friend. "It's been a while since the creatures of the Mystic Woods grew aggravated. Perhaps this is connected to that."
"I can say the same." Kris frowned at their view. "Game's over, Rudy. We have to confront them."
The two switched to their swords before tying their horses to the tree nearby. They cautiously made their way near the group without getting detected. They hid in the bushes to listen in.
"The goblin tribe distracted! It's time to attack I tell you!" one Pon yelled at the other.
"No, no, they are more alarmed than ever! With those ghouls crawling in Hokin's turf, he won't let his guard down!"
They continued to argue until a fight breaks out. They began shouting at the same time as the two parties growled at one another. It was something for them to leave alone until the king of the Slimes jumped at the leaders of the pro and anti groups. The fight stopped while King Pepe wriggled.
"Listen! No one is attacking, and no one is hiding!" He hopped off to let the leaders live. "Everyone; Hokin and the entire goblin tribe are indeed distracted and cautious, but we can't let that fool us." He twirled in place. "Aside from them, we still have the ghouls to deal with! With those pesky Knights blocking their way, they have no choice but to turn on us instead!"
"But Your Majesty" -one of the slimes went gloomy- "we're trying our best to get rid of the Knights, but they're too strong!" The others followed. It continued. "There's no way we can push the ghouls to just pass through our Woods."
Rudy winked at Kris before revealing himself from the bushes. "How about we have a little deal, poor creatures?" He heard Kris snort before following him. He watched the monsters enter a fighting stance, but he just unsheathed his sword. "Stand down. You will only hurt yourselves."
"We heard the undead are still in the woods." Kris just placed a hand on his hip. "We can get rid of them for the convenience of Mystic Woods AND Kingdom Terra. Though we won't interfere with your struggle against the goblin tribe." He looked at the King. "We all know that the undead do not belong here."
The monsters looked at one another. The King rolled closer to the Knights. "How can we make sure you're not here to obliterate us?"
"To be honest, we are" -Rudy sheathed his sword- "but your discussion gave us a lead on a bigger problem." The brunet looked at every creature in the front. "The army from the Dark Grave is a bigger threat to Terra than you are. Finishing them is a higher priority than clearing the woods from hostile mushrooms." He then smiled at the king. "It's been years since you have kept away from the humans, King of Slimes. We know you are capable of keeping it that way with the undead gone."
The King looked at his constituents before turning to the Knights. "Very well then, humans. Swear on your honor that you will not harm my people and the rest of the citizens of the Mystic Woods!"
"Just keep an eye on your boundaries, King of Slimes." Rudy nodded at it before watching it roll back to ask a Pon about something.
Kris went closer to Rudy to tap his shoulder. "How can we know we trust these creatures?"
"We don't" -Rudy smiled at his friend-"but they want those things out as much as we do. We can work withthat."
