Three days after the encounter with Sarah, Kris had to welcome back his friend from a tiring journey. Instead of remaining in his room while staying with Aragon, Rudy opted to go around the kingdom with Kris. It was because he received quite a big reward from Eileene from his mission in the Silent Mines. It must be a good day for them, they thought.
However, the fragments in their bodies decided to not sit still the entire time. Even though the whole tour was fun, they could not help but to feel headache with the strong whispers of darkness in their heads. Little did Rudy know that it was just him; Kris could handle the whispers perfectly. It was a tricky and suspicious thing to master, but someone who had been with it for more than a decade should be able to do it. Kris started using his power earlier than Rudy had; perhaps it gave him leverage. Then again, what Sarah said disturbed Kris as much as the whispers did to Rudy.
"The presence of darkness in you is unnatural who only has a fragment from our god."
"Say, Kris." Rudy unintentionally took Kris out of trance. They were supposed to be resting on a bench near a bridge. "Did you receive the letter I sent you? It was given by this girl courier-"
"Yes, I got it." Kris chuckled, dismissing his thoughts on what the succubus said. "I must say, you should change the way you write to me. It's a little inappropriate."
"Inappropriate!? How!?" Rudy loudly reacted before sighing in defeat. It was followed by a chuckle. "I'm sorry. Letters aren't really something we do. It must have come out that way because I just did it how my father writes to my mother."
Kris sighed as he gave Rudy a little tap on the shoulder. He brought his hand down and stared at the reddening sky. "I have to apologize. It's my fault." He knew Rudy would be confused so he answered way before his friend could asked. "I think my fragment stole your energy when we were resting."
"I see. Then it's okay." He snickered. "In a way, I healed you. I don't feel bad about suddenly losing energy anymore." Rudy calmed down and watched Kris shook his head in pity and with a ridiculing smile. The brunet chuckled lightly, only for it to grow louder as Kris joined him.
Rudy stretched a little- soon lying his sight on the bridge next to them. People rarely cross it, but it was quite a picture of catchy scenery. It was pretty with the lights of the setting sun illuminating the decors of the railing. The knight nudged his friend's shoulder and continued staring at the bridge. "I haven't that bridge since I got here. Can we go and check?"
"No." Kris felt like ruffling Rudy's hair before smacking him lightly. He watched Rudy childishly glare at him before chuckling at the brunet. He cleared his throat before speaking. "That bridge is only for the married and the lovers. They said the Goddess bless people who walk through the bridge with strong relationships." He looked at the bridge. "The blessing is not exclusive to them, but the idea goes into people's minds whenever they see people crossing it."
Rudy looked back at the bridge. "What time does this part of the kingdom sleep?"
The blonde noble stared at him for a while before sighing. "As soon as the night falls, everyone is asked to be indoors. Except for the soldiers since they do have the duty to protect the citizens."
It went without saying. The two left the bench to go around the kingdom again- only to go back to the bridge hours later. The place was dark with only three lights illuminating the bridge. However, it looked as if the bridge's concrete light on its own. Rudy and Kris only walked halfway and stayed at the middle where the brunet watched the water waved a mirage of the kingdom.
He was leaning on his shoulders against the railing, Kris doing the same. They were silent for a while before Rudy started. "I enjoyed the day with you, Kris" -he turned to his friend- "but I can't help but to notice you were acting strange.
"Did somethinghappen when I was gone?"
