A day earlier...
After witnessing how Rudy behaved on the second day of his trials, Alice felt she needed to report to the Goddess at least. The entire day, he did not stop to rest or that he did not seem to feel hunger. There was also dark smoke seeping from inside his armor. Though she was not aware of what it might be, she felt it was something the Goddess must hear about.
Being a helper in the trials, she knew of a place in the tower where the Goddess stays aside from the top floor. She entered the place unaware of the guests the Goddess had. The bunny woman seemed to have walked in a bad time.
There were men in the room, and one was disagreeing with the Goddess herself. He seemed to hold a high position in their faction for the Goddess listens to him and the others only listened to him.
"We must act fast, Your Eminence! As long as that boy lives, they will find ways to take him for their own advantage. The Darkness is preparing a big move against us."
Elena remained unfazed; however, she looked away. "I am aware of the dangers of keeping him alive, but I have no intentions of sacrificing him for the evitable. I put my faith on Rudy, and I shall wait for him to finish the trials before deciding."
"How can you put the world on the hands of a boy who just happen to have the least contaminated fragment, Your Eminence?" The man hung his head. "The grim reaper had sent his message through sixteen corpses of our colleagues. Those letters were carved while they take their last breaths." He scoffed with utter distaste as he turned away, cursing the enemy. "Such monstrous act."
The Goddess kept quiet.
"With all due respect, Your Eminence" -the man straightened- "we shall set forth to meet this boy halfway. We shall see what kind of heart he has for you to trust him so much."
"Kris remains to be locked in the Gold Chamber as long as Rudy undertakes the trials." Elena faced the other knights. "Wait for Rudy at the 90th floor. By then, his physical strength would have been tested. You shall serve as his judge from there."
Alice twitched at the Goddess' words. She knew how far he had reached so far, and that floor lied hours away. She hid from the knights who exited the room and walked in as soon as she heard a worried sigh from the Goddess.
"Your Eminence?"
"Alice" -Elena faced her with a small smile- "it's rare for you to go and see me."
"There's something weird about Rudy. He's" -she stuttered to think of a better word- "somewhat losing control of himself. He's getting really scary."
The celestial being closed her eyes and turned away, looking out from the glassless window of the tower. "This is all part of his trials, Alice. Please try to stay away from him at the moment. In order to deserve the Throne, he must be able to face the greatest challenges in his life."
"And... Kris? He was looking for a man named Kris."
Elena only smiled at her. "Kris is... going through the same events. Only in a different form." She turned away again. "They had depended heavily on their partnership and strength in togetherness. It's time for them to test their individual power.
"For the more trying times to come."
She faced Alice again and gestured her to come closer. The girl did not waste any second to do what was asked of her. Elena graced the bunny woman with a stroke on her head.
"Tell me, Alice" -Elena made a bitter smile- "what do you think of my faith in them? Earlier, you heard otherwise from my superior Knights of Light." She kept stroking at her head. "Those warriors had fought against the Darkness for years. Some of them may have yielded to cowardice, and some- ambitiousness. Yet they never reached the purity of being the king I would have hoped for."
The bunny woman hummed and tried to look away from the goddess. She had to evaluate Rudy in relation to everyone who had secretly entered the Celestial Tower through her magic. She had watched a lot of men fail at completing their trials and stopped being the man they all used to be. She only had a few more split-seconds to answer, and she decided to start with a sigh.
"I have to say,Rudy is way better than most of them. In skills and talent, no doubt. Thenagain" -Alice giggled in an attempt to lighten her judgment- "hewould have been the best Knight of Light if he had the same devotion for you,Your Eminence."
[A/N: I'll give a virtual cookie to anyone who could guess what message Dellons sent them. Just remember 16 letters and (yep) 5 words. Last word is Kris.
To be honest, this is the part (the entire run of Damnation of Kris) that I am quite scared to publish. How this part performs is doing the make or break of the fanfic.]
