Chapter SIX

I turned to look at his emotionless face.
“Just a sec.”
I pulled Kayla aside.
“Did you feel it? That feeling?”
“Yes,” she whispered back. “I get strange vibes from him. He doesn’t seem normal.”
“Agreed.”
“But, I guess we have no choice. He may not be as creepy as he looks.”
Darn. She was right though.
Grabbing Kayla’s hand (which I did only when I wanted to protect her) I turned and faced him.
“Hi. I’m Layla.”
“I’m Kayla.”
He seemed taken by surprise.
“You have DIFFERENT names?”
“Umm…yeah.” Was he nuts?
“So you guys are still oblivious to your true nature-“
“Excuse me, we need to get to class Ceduic. Please follow us.”
Wow, good job Kayla. He was about to protest, but stayed quiet. For the rest of the day, I hoped. Sigh.
“Follow us. If you want to talk, it can wait until after school.”
“…Fine.”
The walk to Biology was awkward. I kept Kayla close, while this Ceduic guy easily kept pace. He looked straight ahead, though shot some half-glares at us once in a while.
When we finally got to class, the bell rang.
“Layla, Kayla, please sit down.” Our teacher’s skinny arm waved at us to go.
“And I suppose this is our new student?”
“Yes ma’am,” he said.
“Very good. Class, please welcome Mr. Ceduic…Giles, yes. He is new here so please make him feel at home.”
Some girls giggled. Some were whispering. But he seemed oblivious to it all.
“As to your seat…there is an open one next to Layla.”
Great. I love this day even more.
“Yes ma’am.”
He (too quietly) sat in the empty seat next to me. The half-glares never stopped at me and Kayla. That was pretty much the whole day until school ended. Then, he followed us out the building as the last class of the day ended.
“Now what?” I almost yelled.
“You said we could talk after school. And now we have to. Quickly.”
I almost protested, but Kayla beat me.
“Of course…Layla lets just hear him out.”
Sigh. He didn’t know us, so maybe it wasn’t something as pressing as it seemed.
“Well, speak.”
“You guys…have been leading a false life.”
“What?”
“Layla, sshh.”
“Continue.”
He glared then became serious.
“You both are one, but divided. To put it simply, you guys are not human.”
