Chapter 41
[RILEY]
The next day...
I know that what I said to Jess wasn't cool, but what she did was even worse. Why would she do that to me? Since when was she a lesbian? I had so many questions. But the big question is, what the fuck am I going to do about Harry. I can't let him go, but I don't know how to reach him.
Today we have no school because it's professional day. I could show up to his house. The question is would he let me in? Would he even be home?
My feet shake the floor as I pace back and fourth in my bedroom. I don't know how i'm going to handle this. My feet come to a pause when I hear a pound on the door.
"Would you stop pacing back and fourth, you're causing a draft." My sister Stella says as she pokes her head in through the door.
"Sorry, I've just got a lot on my mind." I say to her as I walk outside onto my terrace.
I look out at the ocean as the sunlight beams onto each wave and the tiny little boats stream on by. My sisters footsteps follow from behind me. She leans up against the railing in the same position as me.
"How's life treating you?" She asks as her perfectly blonde hair blows in the wind. I look down at my hands and take a minute to respond. I can't come up with the right word to even describe my life right now. I shake my head slightly before I look back up to reply.
"Lately, I don't know." I begin to say. I take a deep breath before continuing. "Everything was going fine. I had good grades, amazing friends, the boy of my dreams, popularity, everything. Now it kind of feels like i'm back to being invisible. Like no one can hear a word I say."
My sister's sea green eyes are staring into Caribbean blue ones.
"Well, what's bothering you the most?" She asks politely.
"This whole Harry thing is driving me nuts." I reply with aggression. She hesitates for a moment before answering.
"Have you tried talking to him?"
"Yes." I say quickly.
"Reasoning with him?"
"Yes."
"Looking at him?"
"Yes Stella, I've tried it all." I answer. She lets out a long sigh and looks down at her feet.
The wind blows in my hair softly and I feel a sudden sense of sensibility rush through me. Standing out here allows me to clear my mind almost. It's always been my safe haven.
"What about talking to his friends?" Stella says with a sudden bolt of energy. I look up at her with confusion in my eyes.
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"I mean have you spoken to his friends about this? Like his closest friends?" She asks again.
"Uh no I haven't but-"
"Brilliant, we'll do that right now!" She says as she turns away from the railing and goes back inside my room. I turn and look out in front of me in confusion then follow her back inside.
"Stella, what are you up to?" I ask as I stand there and watch her fiddle around my room.
"Where's your phone?" She asks while she continues to rummage around my room.
"Uh, down stairs in the living room, why?" I answer. She turns to the door and burst it open. I quickly try to keep up with her as she stumbles down the stairs and scurries into the living room.
She grabs my phone off the coffee table and unlocks it with the password I had no idea that she knew.
"Who's his closest friend?" Stella ask swiftly.
"Uh, Louis." I say.
"Do you have his number?" She asks as she starts typing in my phone.
"Yes but-"
"Shh." She says as she clicks the call button and puts the phone up to her ear. She waits for the first ring to buzz then shoves the phone in front of my face.
"What are you doing?" I whisper harshly.
"Take it." She whispers back as the phone rings for the second time.
"NO! Are you crazy?" I continue to whisper.
"Take the damn phone!" She insists. I grab the phone from her and put it up to my ear with a grumpy face. It's rings for the 3rd time.
"What should I say?" I whisper again.
"Just ask if you can meet up." She answers.
I scrunch my face up at her absurd request. I hear the phone pick up and my face turns straight.
"Uhh Hello?" Louis says in his raspy high voice.
"Oh Hi Louis. Umm, do you perhaps have time to talk?" I ask politely hoping that he doesn't have time so I can get out of this conversation.
"Yeah sure Ry." He replies. Ry? Since when did he call me that?
"Okay so I was just wondering if maybe you could help me out with something?" I ask.
"Like what?" He says calmly. I look over at Stella and bite my lip anxiously. She nods her head signalling for me to ask.
"Could we possibly meet up to discuss something that I think is rather important?" I ask.
"Let me guess, it's about Harry isn't it?"
"Yes, yes it is. I completely understand if you don't feel comfortable meeting up with me to discuss this because he's your best mate and-"
"I'll do it." He interrupts. I stop what I'm doing and stare blankly ahead of me.
"Wait seriously?" I say in shock.
"Yeah, i'm sure Harry wouldn't mind." He says. I don't say anything after that because I have a feeling he would mind.
"Or maybe we just won't tell him." He says comfortingly.
"Good plan." I reply.
"Hey and to make this plan even better, I'll invite Niall, Liam, and Zayn to tag along." He says happily. It takes me a moment to process what he just said because it's going to be really awkward to have us all together without Harry.
"Yeah even better." I lie.
"So tomorrow at 7, my place. I'll text you the address." Louis says.
"Okay sounds great." I answer.
"Later."
"Bye."
I hang up the phone and look over at Stella who has joy in her eyes as she's biting her finger nails.
"See, told you I'm a genius." She says.
"You never told me that." I laugh
"Well, act like I did."
