Hyun Ae walked into the grand library on the first floor and ripped her heels off. She walked out to the balcony and stared out at the moon’s reflection on the pool. Images of Sehun and Paris (she finally remembered her name) kept replaying in her head. A tear dripped down her cheek, and then another and another until it became a steady flow.

Of all the things Sehun could do, he had to cheat on her. Even though technically they were on a break, but still... It was an unspoken rule between the two of them. Until one of them officially said it was over, they were still sort of together.

“God! That’s a messed up logic.” She said to herself. Her entire relationship with Sehun was messed up. Mother will be happy to know there’s no relationship anymore, she thought laughing bitterly. Her mother never liked Sehun, actually she didn’t like a lot of things in Hyun Ae’s life.

The tears streamed down her face and yet she found herself laughing hysterically at the turn of events.

“If a tree falls in the forest and there’s no one to see it. Does it make a sound?” someone asked startling Hyun Ae.

She quickly brushed the tears from her eyes as she watched the blonde boy came to stand beside her at the railing.

“What?” she asked him, her voice still hoarse from crying.

“Just a philosophical question.” Namjoon said giving her a dimply smile.

“What?” Hyun Ae repeated. She knew who Namjoon was, the two of them always occupied the top two spots in the academic side of school, the performing arts was another story.

“Just something I thought of when I saw you rushing in here. You strike me as the type of girl who would never allow anyone else to see how she truly feels.” He said. “You remind me a bit of AJ in that regard.” He said.

Hyun Ae frowned. “Have you been here this whole time? In the dark?”

“I was doing some thinking.” He replied.

“About AJ?” Hyun Ae asked curiously. Namjoon frowned.

“Why would I be thinking about AJ?” he asked.

“Because you two dated?”

“Ah that.” He said rubbing his neck sheepishly. “That’s in the past and thankfully we’re starting to get past it now.”

“Oh.” Was all Hyun Ae could say. She stared out at the pool again, she was hoping Namjoon would get a clue and leave her alone, but he stayed right by her side and she was too polite to ask him to leave.

“Wanna talk about it?” he asked.

“About what?”

“About what has you so upset. I hear talking to a stranger helps.”

“But you’re not a stranger.” She replied.

“But I’m not a friend either.” He offered. Hyun Ae considered and saw no harm in talking to him. Getting a guy’s perspective would be helpful. So she told him everything, from when she and Sehun started dating when they were fifteen, about how her parents disapproved of her choice in boyfriend, school and friends. She told him about the constant fights, break-up and make up. She told him about what happened earlier and how she felt like it was her fault for pushing Sehun away.

When she finished, she felt a whole lot lighter. She was going to thank Namjoon for being such a good listener when he spoke up.

“You know what your problem is?” he asked taking her by surprise.

“My problem?”

“You’re not assertive enough. You just take what life hands you without trying to fight for what you really want. That’s why Sehun and everyone else in your life walks all over you like some old raggy doormat.” He said.
