His movements were as smooth and graceful as a panther’s. AJ was mesmerised by how his movements flowed smoothly even though it was clear the dance routine was made for two people, but he made it work. His moves were so powerful and passionate as if he was releasing pent up emotions. She felt like she was intruding but her feet couldn’t move so she just stood there in doorway hidden by the darkness.

Kai cursed when he missed a step then he noticed her.

“Who’s there?” displeasure was evident in his voice. AJ debated whether to reveal herself or turn back. “I said who’s there?” he asked again.

“It’s just me.” AJ said walking out onto the roof. There was a slight breeze her but it wasn’t anything she couldn’t handle.

“I’m sorry I interrupted, I didn’t think anyone would be up here this late.” She explained.

“I don’t mind if it’s you, I was annoyed ‘cause I thought it was some freshmen girls who’ve been following me around lately.” Kai said before taking in deep gulp of water from his bottle. AJ followed the move of his Adams apple as it bobbed up and down and pinched herself.

“You have stalkers?” she asked amused.

“Harmless but annoying.” He answered. “Couldn’t sleep?” he asked her, AJ nodded. “Me too, came here to work off the extra energy.” He explained.

“You’re a really great dancer by the way. One of the best I’ve seen actually.” AJ complimented.

Kai beamed at her; “Thanks. Coming from you that means a lot.”

“Why’s that?” AJ asked.

“Because I know you hang out with Hoseok and Jimin and they’re both excellent dancers too.” Kai replied. Sitting down and leaning his back against the wall, AJ sat next to him and listened as he caught his breath.

“Do you mind being my practicing partner for tonight?” Kai asked out of the blue. “The routine requires two people and I can’t exactly go wake up my partner for a practice session right now.”

Surprise was written across her face. Kai knew she’d probably say no, she always seemed so skittish around him, never staying more than five minutes in his presence. So it came as a huge shock when she actually agreed.

“D-did you just say yes?” he asked earning a giggle from AJ. For the first time he noticed that she had a dimple on her left cheek. He wanted to poke it, but that would be too weird.

“Yeah, but you’ll have to talk me through some parts though.” She replied.

“Yeah. No problem.” Kai couldn’t help the goofy grin that spread on his face. This was his big chance to finally get to know her without Libby or Hyun Ae’s presences or her army of protectors.

“Ok, let’s get started shall we?” he said turning on the music. The sensual melody of Pillowtalk filled the silence of the night air.

AJ blushed when she heard Pillowtalk. Why did he even pick this song in the first place?

The feeling of Kai’s hand on her waist was like an electric bolt shooting through her. She was pretty sure her face crimson by now.

“You still with me?’ he asked. She could only manage a nod. He was too close. She could practically count every little lash on his eyes.

Nope, don’t look into his eyes. They were smouldering and she was finding herself mesmerised by them as they moved. She tried looking at his lips instead, but they were just begging to be kissed. Because of her weird byuntae mind she kept missing a lot of steps.

“You’re too tense.” Kai said drawing her closer, lips brushing against the shell of her ear. “Relax.” He whispered.

Her heart was beating so hard she thought it might burst out her chest. Or was it his? She couldn’t tell.

“I’ll try.” she said. 

“Why don’t we play 20 questions to get you to relax?” He said as he picked her up and she wrapped her legs around his waist as leaned down then released her and twirled her around.

“Alright. Me first. What’s your favourite colour?” she asked.

“Sky blue.” Kai said not sounding out of breath like her.

“What age did you have your first kiss?” he asked casually causing her to miss a step.

“What kind of question is that?” she demanded.

“A normal one?”

“You’re supposed to ease into it first.” AJ spluttered.

“I prefer getting directly to the point. So are you going to answer?” he said with a smirk.

“Fourteen.” AJ answered. “Are you a virgin?” she asked to get back at him. Kai didn’t seem the least bit embarrassed.

“No. Are you?” he asked.

“N-no.” she blushed. They continued with their back and forth but the questions became tamer after AJ protested when Kai wanted to know the freakiest thing she’d ever done.

“See you’re not so tense anymore.” Kai said as the song came to an end. AJ hadn’t even realised that they’d finished the whole routine.

Kai still had his arms around her and she wondered when he was going to let her go. She bit her lip as she searched for something to say. Kai zeroed in on that and AJ felt her heart start to race again. Kai leaned in closer. Before his lips met hers, Suga’s voice scolded her from the doorway.

“Choi Autumn Jai you’re still under my ban!” He said. AJ immediately pushed Kai away from her.

“Yoongi what are you doing here?” she asked mortified. That’s when she noticed Namjoon and Taehyung behind Suga, both wearing smug looks from what they’d just witnessed.

“Your friend Libby saw that you were missing from your bed and she was worried ‘cause apparently you were restless in your sleep.” Namjoon answered making quotation marks in the air.

“Looks like she had nothing to worry about though. AJ was in some very capable hands.” Taehyung teased.

“Dating ban!” Suga reminded.

“I know!” AJ said.

“Did he just say dating ban?” Kai asked mystified.

AJ turned her head so quickly she was lucky she didn’t get whiplash. She’d almost forgotten Kai was still here.

“Don’t mind anything he says. He’s just a grumpy old grandpa.” She said quickly.

“What did you just call me?” Suga growled.

“Anyway, thanks for the dance lesson. It was nice running into you Kai. Goodnight.” She said trying to push the three boys downstairs before they could embarrass her further.

“You guys won’t be ‘running’ into each other anytime soon.” Suga said with a menacing glare in Kai’s direction.

“Stop that!” AJ said slapping his arm. “Once again I am so sorry. He’s not usually like this; well actually he is but...” AJ rambled.

“Let’s go Autumn.” Suga said dragging her.

Kai just stood there wondering what the hell just happened.
