2 weeks before...
"Hey Christi have you seen lex?" I asked as I somewhat waddled to her desk. She chewed her gum before blowing a bubble and popping it loudly.
Rolling her eyes she replied. "No.."
"Hmm that's strange.. Thought he would've been back by now.. He's been gone for almost a week now.." I muttered. I sighed as I gave Christi a quick thank you as she raised an eyebrow and gave a frown in return.
I made my way back to my desk in our office. Lex's and I. The air was cold and it was awfully silent. I sighed sitting there leaning back on the chair. My attention snapped back to lex's desk. The free space just felt like a void. I felt a certain amount of....
Emptiness?
I think I might have actually missed him. Yes he was OCD, yes he was a control freak, but he was nice and there when I really needed him. Most importantly he was a friend. I sighed as I observed his neat desk, pencils In a pencil cup perfectly leaning to one side, papers stacked neatly into a pile, and his...?
His car keys?
That doesn't make sense... Wouldn't he need his car to get to the airport? Or atleast a driver. Did he take a cab? No.. Lex hates taking cabs. I stood up and strode over to his desk. Very carefully I picked up his keys.
"Hmm.." I muttered to myself. Swifter with my movements I sat in his chair. The sweet scent of him fresh mingling with the cold air. My hand went down to open the desk drawer. Inside was his phone.
"Dammit!" My eyes widened as I realized more than likely he wasn't on a business trip. He was gone...
But the question was where to?
I swiftly picked up the cell phone and slid it into my back pocket and rushed out the office door as fast as my feet would take me.
I rushed down the stairs and out the door. Heading straight for the coffee shop across the street determined to see if lex even made it to the cafe, my breath quickened.
"Hi..." I said as I rushed up to the counter cutting off the line behind me.
"Hey ! There's a line!" A woman almost yelled annoyed.
"I'll only be a second!" I turned slightly to say trying to sound as nice as possible. I quickly took our lex's phone and scrolled through his photos to find one of his 'selfies'. "Have you seen this man lately? Maybe a few days ago or a week or so?" I asked the woman at the counter eagerly.
"No..sorry."
She sighed out clearly annoyed. "Is that it? Your kinda holding up the line .." I pressed my lips into a thin yet nervous line and have her a quick nod no.
"Thank you.." I mumbled as I turned on my heels to leave.
I stopped right outside the coffee shop deep in thought. Deciding to go home I noticed a taxi parked. Quickly I rushed over and got in.
"Hi..are you on break or can I get a ride?" I quickly asked though I couldn't see the drivers face.
"Sure thing toots.." His voice was grouchy and uneasy. I thought about getting out but by this time he was already driving. Very fast. What made me even more nervous is that he went on driving without even asking me where I was going.
"Uh the address is-" he cut me off.
"No need sweet heart. We have places to be and people to see Eva..." He laughed sickly which followed by a grouchy cough.
A pit formed at the bottom of my stomach, my hand went to rest on my belly, and my eyes widened. "Who the hell are you?" I whispered almost as he made a sharp turn driving very far from my small apartment.
