Mabel had made friends, three to be exact, in the first three weeks of summer that fateful year.
Grenda, a manly young girl with an extremely deep voice.
Candy, a petite girl, who can speak Korean and wears oval shaped spectacles, her voice not nearly as deep as Grenda's.
One more. It wasn't a person, it didn't have a voice. Not a sound came from it but a slight scratching sound as Mabel spoke to it, telling it that its predictions were right.
Mabel slowly became more secluded, slightly quieter. She was the same, but different entirely.
Three weeks of talking to a book, hiding it from the world. Ma--I mean, Dipper had almost discovered it many times. But Mabel hid it again and again.
"Hey Mabel!" Dipper said enthusiastically over breakfast that morning.
"Yeah Bro-bro?" Mabel idly responded, taking a sip of her glitter-Dino-infused drink she called Mabel Juice.
"Want to go on a Mystery Hunt today?"
Mabel considered going, but had a bad feeling about it.
"Nah. I think I'll go see my friends today!" That wasn't a complete lie - Mabel would probably be talking to her mini fortune journal, that she named Mini Jr.
Such a redundant name. I know.
Later on, while Dipper was going to hunt for the ever-elusive Faeries, Mabel talked to Mini Jr. MJ, for short.
"So, MJ, what's up? Any new prophecies?" Mabel asked the inanimate object.
Hi Mabel! Yeah, just one. But this one'll be a riddle! I love riddles!
The words came to life on the paper.
Having fun in summer's sun,
It's good for everyone.
But fun and games might come to an end,
Temporarily.
Mason will destroy himself,
Insecurely.
But most of all,
Don't go too deep.
Into the woods,
Where monsters creep.
They'll tear you to shreds,
Or so they say.
Prepare your self,
For this monsters day.
Beware the one always watching,
Every time he sees you talking.
One eye of yellow,
The other patched.
Watch out on which,
You'll choose the path.
Remember this: The path you choose, you will fall. You won't know why unless you remember it all."Hmm. MJ, that's confusing! Does that mean I have to memorize this whole thing or something?"
Mabel turned the page for his response, the prediction had taken up a lot of room.
Not precisely. But know that's all I can tell you for now. It'll be there when you need it!
Anyways. What's up, Mabel?
"Nothing really. Dipper's out on a Mystery Hunt."
What's he going after this time?
"Elusive Faeries."
I very much doubt he'll see one, much less get to investigate the race.
"Candy and Grenda are having boy trouble. More like crushing on the same guy." Mabel smiled. She was talking to someone she trusted, and someone who knew her better than Dipper knows her!
Geez. You'd think they'd make a pact to forget about him.
"They did. And they both broke it."
Just like them! What's the boys name and such?
"I think it's...I actually forgot. He wasn't cute at all. Wait...I thought you knew it already, knew pretty much everything?"
Those were your words, not mine. I dot know everything. Let me think in the boy...just give me a description!
"Okay! He was tall, definitely at least 15, spikey, pink hair, and a scale-y patterned scarf."
Ah, Natsu Dragneel. I heard he's the son of a dragon! (Don't tell Dipper that, he's go interrogate the poor fellow!) Anyways, he's 16, and I believe he knows how to use dragon magic. It's pretty awesome if you ask me. But what's he doing so far from his home?
"Maybe on vacation? What I don't understand is why Grenda and Candy would like a 16-year-old!"
Perhaps. But to me, girls work in mysterious ways.
Mabel glared at the book.
O-oh! I-I didn't mean you! I'm sorry! Please forgivr me! I just...it's also what makes talking to you interesting, I can predict what boys will say! I'm sorry!
"It's okay. You're forgiven. Geez, you were so nervous you made a spelling error!"
I did? How stupid of me! 'Forgivr'. Haha! Oops! Arigato, Mabel!
"No problem, MJ!"
Someone's coming. Hide me quickly! I know you don't want me to be seen!
Mabel hid MJ under her bed just as Mason was climbing up the stairs.
Mabel was acting like she was nutting for a while as soon as Dipper opened the door to their shared attic room.
"Hey Mabel. I thought you said you were going to your friends?" Dipper asked, irritated that she had just made an excuse.
"Oh! Well, they were busy! So I've been knitting!" Mabel replied, looking at her knitting.
Another stitch done!
She took the opportunity and looked at her brother. Only then did she notice the small cuts battering his cheeks, arms, and legs. The large gash on his left cheek, all the bruises and a few burns scattered all over him.
"Dipper! What happened!"
"I'll be fine Mabel. I found a...not too friendly Faery. I had to run. I tripped and gashed my cheek open, but the Faery burned me a little with magic."
"Go get Soos! We'll fix you up!" Mabel told him cheerfully.
"I'll be fine. I've always been a feat healer anyways!" It was true. Dipper has gotten hurt so often, but was often fine in the next two or three days. He never got infections, and he didn't nee braces. Dipper only got allergies and mild fevers, and the fevers went away pretty quickly.
"Okay then bro! I'm going to go make some Mabel Juice!" Liar.
Mabel hid MJ in her sweater and went to a small clearing Dipper didn't even know about in the forest, and started talking to MJ again.
"MJ, are you a boy or girl?" Mabel couldn't believe she hadn't thought to ask before dubbing it 'Mini Jr'.
I am neither and both at the same time. I'm whatever you want me to be!
"That's not confusing." Mabel said, in her cheerfully sarcastic voice.
I know! But since I'm "Mini Jr," I suppose I'm a boy right now!
"Okay!" Mabel agreed, and chatted on with her Mini Journal.
