"You look beautiful Lils." My girlfriend smiled at me and kissed my cheeks. I was at her apartment to pick her up and she was wearing a lovely blue dress that reached her toes.
"I'm so excited!!!" She squealed.
"C'mon let's go, Emi is waiting for us with Ryder."
The blonde girl nodded and laced her fingers with mind as I drove to the banquet in my car. She had hummed songs I never heard of throughout the ride that I wasn't familiar with.
"Oh, you don't know them?" Her happy expression for a brief moment faded but was soon replaced with the same smile I had just seen, "that's okay, they used to my favourite, but not anymore."
I wasn't sure how to take it, but I mimicked her expression.
When we arrived, I was caught by the waving Emi. She was alone.
"Where's Ryder?" I asked.
"He couldn't come, he would be caught dead at a banquet, apparently." She rolled her eyes at that statement but quickly looked at Lily.
"Hey Lily!" She said with as much as enthusiasm as she could muster and I was thankful Emi was there.
Lily, albeit more awkward than I had anticipated just waved shyly.
I guess semi-friends was an overstatement to begin with.
A few hours later, Lily's friends were surrounding me, asking me a hundred different questions I wasn't too sure of.
However, one incident kept playing in the back of my mind as the night continued.
Lily's friend had said this, "Oh, you're Lily's boyfriend? You're...different."
What did she mean different?
I couldn't help but have this nagging sensation in my brain that I tried to get rid of, but it wasn't leaving my mind.
Others had stated their affections for me.
"You better not break Lily's heart!"
"Oh gosh, you're the type of guy that girls want to bring home."
I laughed and played along with their up beat attitude, though it was a bit exhausting. Emi chatted with all of Lily's friends, I thought they were getting along but I was wrong.
After Emi left the dining table, the girls looked at me wearily.
"You're close to Emi." One of Lily's friend stated instead of questioned.
I ignore her obvious disrespect to Emi, "yeah I am."
I glanced to Lily who seem rather uncomfortable by the whole situation and I was glad that she wasn't the mastermind.
"I'm friends with Emi, but Lily's my girlfriend." I grabbed her hand and Lily's eyes widened slightly and her rose cheeks were evident.
Her friends squealed, quickly removing the topic of Emi out of the way. I was relieved that they didn't exactly say anything bad about Emi.
"Emi has a boyfriend, so it's not like that guys." Lily stated and her friends nodded.
However the direction went into another topic entirely, making me feel uncomfortable all over again.
"Lily your ex is at the banquet!" One girl said in distress and I glanced at Lily to see her face fall flat.
"Axel?" Her voice was hoarse all of a sudden.
