My Parents Double Life.

Chapter 2

"Vanessa." My dad smiles widely as if in disbelief. "You've grown".

"Well it has been months since you have last visited me." I retort, anger welling up in my voice. "Why are you here now?" I throw my keys onto the coffee table as I shut the door behind me.

"We just wanted to visit you Vanessa dear. We have missed you!" My mum states, clapping her hands together as she ignores my anger.

"Oh please," I blurt "you're never here. The only time your here is for something you need, not for my benefit".

Mums eye sadden at my comment and she blinks a few times as if fighting tears.

"Honey please, we have something to tell you and it may be hard for you to take it all in at first". She sighs and before I can reply, dad cuts me off.

"We need you to be civilized about this, it's a very big thing that we are telling you."

Oh please what could they possibly have to tell me that's so important.

"Come sit down," my dad says while pointing to the old couch we always used to sit on together before they started going away a lot.

The plain white couch with tears and rips along the seams tells you how old it is.

As I sit down on the left and my parents on the right they start to talk.

"Now Vanes," My mother sighs. It's been so long since I have heard them call me that. Before she can continue, she is cut off by the sound of a phone ringing.

My dad gets up with a spring, groaning a little at the interruption before and answers it.

"Hello?" He pauses with a look of concentration on his face. I can hear very faint muttering of the caller but it's not audible. "Yes, what's the problem?" His face drops and I can tell it's not anything good. "OK. We will be down there soon." And without any goodbye's, he hangs up the phone.

"Gloria we have to go down to the workshop the alarm went off." He turns towards me and gives me a small, sad smile. "We will have to tell you tonight honey."

"Sure" I reply with a slight hint of annoyance. How convenient that the alarm goes off now.

As my dad picks up his car keys I hear the vibration of my phone on the kitchen bench and I break away from them to get to it.

"We will be back soon honey!" my mum reassures as she walks out the door behind my dad humming as he is walking along the cobble stone foot path.

I pick up my phone and read the message from what seems to be an unknown number.

"What you might not know now you will soon find out."

Confused, I read the message over and over again. It's most likely a prank or even a wrong number.

I put my phone down and start walking to my bedroom when I hear a buzz of my phone. I quickly run back to it, think it maybe the anonymous sender but it's simply Kayden.

"Hey want to go to the movies to see something with Jade, Zach and Natalie and then go for a bite afterwards?? The session starts at 4:30pm"

I look at the clock and see its 3:50. It couldn't hurt to go. My parents can just tell me that big important secret when I get home.

I go into my room and put on my favourite dress. It's pink with lace up the top which I can't help but find beautiful. I simply wear my hair out and put some pretty sandals on. I also put on an infinity necklace and a silver bracelet. I still have my pink nail polish on that I painted the other week it's slightly chipped but it doesn't matter. I quickly spray myself with perfume and leave my room.

I grab my bag and put my phone, wallet and lip gloss in. I walk to the door. I open it. And then I jump with fright. There stood Kayden, Jade, Zach and Natalie.

"Gave you a bit of a fright did we?" Zach says sarcastically with a grin on his face.

"Yeah you know how I am" I reply smirking.

"Let's go" Jade chirps, jumping slightly with excitement.

"Fine by me" I reply.

So we start walking together down the road on the path.

Zach's wearing a blue polo shirt and jeans with some nice Colorado shoes. Kayden wearing the same thing but with a green polo shirt and a watch. Those two always dress similarly to the point where we laugh about it. Jade is wearing a nice blue skirt with a black lace top, anklet and ballet flats. She has her hair out and is wearing blue nail polish which is slightly chipped, just like mine. Natalie is wearing a purple dress with her hair in a doughnut bun, a bracelet, sandals and is wearing freshly painted purple nail polish to match her dress. She's always nicely groomed when it comes to her nails.

"What's our homework?" Natalie asks curiously, breaking the long silence.

"Can we not talk about school now?" Kayden replies with a groan but soon smirks at the thought of annoying Natalie. "We know you went well in your exams but no need to brag."

"Oh please I wasn't!" Natalie states with a huff.

We all laugh together and even a smile creeps onto Natalies' lips

"What are we going to see?" Zach asks, recovering from his recent laughing fit.

"Don't know," I shrug "We will see what's there. Bags not paying for the popcorn." I quickly chime in which soon starts a frenzy.

"Bags not," Zach says quickly soon followed by Jade and Natalie.

"Guess it's me paying," Kayden says rolling his eyes.

We keep walking and chatting along the way until we reach the cinemas and immediately we are surrounded by different movie titles and posters.

"So many things to choose" Natalie mutters as we walk up to the large board revealing all the choices.

"What about," Zach lights up but soon frowns "wait no." He scratches is face in concentration.

"We can see the new Harry Potter movie?" I add in, not looking down from the board.

After a few seconds they all nod and mutter their agreement as we walk towards the ticket booth.

Kayden goes and buys the food so Zach tags along with him while Jade, Natalie and I go to buy the tickets.

"Hi can I please have 5 tickets for Harry Potter for the 4:30 session," Jade smiles, opening up her wallet.

"That will be $25 dollars please," the worker says, typing on his computer as the tickets spit out from it.

"Here you go,'' I say as I hand the $25 to the man which causes Jade to frown as if looking displeased that I wouldn't let her pay.

"Have a good time," he says while handing the tickets to me.

I hand the tickets to each of us. Kayden and Zach come walking over with the food. They have 3 large popcorns, 2 boxes of maltesers and a packet of rattle snakes.

"We shouldn't of left you guys in charge of food," Natalie adds while grabbing a box of maltesers. "So unhealthy," she says with a mouth full of food which I can't help but chuckle at.

We head into the movie theater with our food and sit down and enjoy the movie.

Before I enter I quickly turn my phone on silent along with the other guys.
