As I roll over over after a nice sleep my ears fill with beeps of my alarm clock. My sleepy eyes open slowly and quickly close shut because of the blaring light coming through my window. I rub my eyes and get them used to the bright light and eventually open them and sit up. It's Monday morning, the first day of the week. Part of me just can't bring myself to separate from my bed but after about a minute of whining to myself mentally, I know I must get up. And with that, I sit up slowly, hesitant to pull off the warm covers from my sleepy body. I sigh to myself and rip them off of me, immediately greeting my body with the cold, damp morning air. A small shiver runs down my spine as I walk towards the kitchen to prepare my breakfast.

I make myself spaghetti on toast, just like every other morning. After breakfast I get ready and pack my bag for school along with my lunch. My parents are always on business trips, seeing as they are high up in a corporate job, running an architecture business, so I organize everything in the morning by myself which can be pretty annoying at times especially if I have a lot to do where I can really use a helping hand but sadly, it's just me in the house so you can understand why I sometimes forget certain things like homework. I check my time table to see what subjects I have on today when I hear the familiar vibration of my phone on the kitchen bench. I already know who it is when I walk out to read the text message. Just as expected, it's my best friend Kayden. I open the text quickly when I notice the time in the top corner of my phone: 7:45am. Oh no, I'm going to be late.

"Meet u at the bus stop ;)"

I type in my reply before shoving my phone into my pocket and running back into my room to collect my stuff.

"See you there"

I quickly place all of my things I need into my bag after grabbing my keys from my top shelf. I am careful to notice if I have left anything behind, especially now that I have been forced into a rush. I sling my bag over my shoulder and run out of the door, tightly locking it behind me.

As I quickly jog to the bus stop a thought slips into my mind. I realize that I haven't received my monthly cheque from my parents. It is used towards food, school supplies, and bills, anything of the sort really. Usually they always send it on time, the full $500. I can't help but wonder what the delay is. They couldn't have possibly forgotten, I mean, they have been going on extended business trips for as long as I can remember. Of course back when I was little I would have a babysitter and my parents would be gone for a maximum of three days and that's it. Now they could be gone for weeks for all I know. They never tell me anything anymore and I'm sick of it. I frown at the thought of my parents forgetting about the cheque or even me for that matter. Who knows, they are away so often these days I wouldn't reject the idea. Before I can think anymore of it I see Kayden smiling at the bus stop, waving at me.

"Hey," he yells out, "you're running late today aren't you?" He laughs.

"Slept in, you know me." I smile back and soon after the bus pulls up beside us and the doors swing open, revealing the bus driver who doesn't even acknowledge us. I push past Kayden with a laugh and race to our normal seats at the back of the bus.

When I sit down, Kayden sits next to me handing me the other ear phone he has. I smile widely. We always listen to the same songs every time and as we do we always hum along or even sometimes, get to caught up to notice we are belting the lyrics out. As I hum to the music we finally arrive at school and continued for the day ahead.

The end of the day came along really quickly and sooner than I expected, the bell rang for the end of school.

"Thank God" I think as I'm leaving A block with Kayden.

"I have to go pick up my little sister from primary school" Kayden says, shortly overtaking me and heading to the gates.

"Ok text you tonight" I call out and soon I head off to the bus shelter to go home.

The bus ride feels never ending seeing as I'm not with Kayden. So I just sit in silence, staring aimlessly out the window.

When I arrive home I noticed that my parent's car is in the driveway. I blink a couple of times in disbelief before running down the driveway, faster than I have ever ran before, the leaves crunching beneath my feet. Then when I walk through the door, there they stood. My parents.
