9) Goodbye?

I sit with Mano in the antique shop.

"Your aunt was a great women. She was always brave but when I found her I was heart broken." Says Mano.

"How did she die?" I ask.

"One of her missions was to save people from a shooter. She got everyone out and when she was going back home she got shot and left in an alley. I found her and took her ring to your father. He was devastated."

"That's so sad." I say.

"Yes indeed. But I will always remember her." Says Mano.

I hear the door open and see Kai walk in.

"Hey Nora, if I'm going to your house tonight for dinner you might wanna be there." He says

"Oh yeah! Bye Mano!" I say.

"Bye you two." He says.

I run outside and Kai grabs me and flies me home.

"Now go inside the building and to our front door." I say as I push him towards the edge of the balcony.

"Ok ok." He says. "See ya in a bit."

He drops off the edge and I look over and see him swoop up past me and back down.

I go inside and change into a comfy sweater. Then I put on some jeans.

I go out into the living room and smell the food from our kitchen.

"Nora come help your mother." Says my dad.

"Ok." I say.

I walk over and help my mom cook and set the table.

Ding Dong

I run to the door.

"Hey." Says Kai.

He's wearing a flannel shirt that's open and a t-shirt under it and jeans.

He smiles.

"Come in." Says my dad walking up behind me.

We walk to the table and I sit next to Kai and my parents sit next to each other.

We start to eat.

"So Kai, what are you parents like?" Asks my mom.

"Well, my dad works at the hospital almost all day and my mom is a secretary at the City Hall." He says as he eats.

"Interesting, any siblings?" Says my dad.

"I have an older brother who's in college and then there's me." He says smiling.

"Cool, how long has he been there?" Says my mom.

He takes a drink of water then says, "He's a sophomore."

"Oh just starting... Kinda." Says my dad.

"Yep." He says.

My parents smile.

"What are your interests Kai?" Asks my dad.

"Well, I enjoy music, sports, and doctors work." He says sitting up a little.

I look at my parents and see they are interested by him.

"What sports do you enjoy?" Asks my dad.

"Uh, I like playing soccer, baseball, and football." He says.

"Good sports." Says my dad.

He smiles and winks at me and mouths, "he's a keeper"

"Goodbye?" I say confused.

"I'm sorry Nora, I have to go out of town for a few days with my family. I promise I'll be back soon. Don't worry." Says Kai holding my hands.

"Oh well.... It's ok." I say. "I'll miss you."

"I'll miss you too." Kai says as he stands up.

I walk him to our front door and hug him goodbye.

I sit on our couch and my dad sits next to me.

"He's a real keeper." He says happily.

"Yep, I know." I say leaning my head on his shoulder.

We watch TV for a bit but I fall asleep.

I wake up to the sun in my eyes. I walk to my room and get ready for school. I put on a shirt, jeans, and a flannel shirt around my waist. Then I grab my bag and put on some vans.

I go grab an apple and head out the door. I open the elevator and go to the main floor of our apartment building.

I stand in the elevator eating my apple. People come and go. I just look at the posters on the walls surrounding us.

I hear a song and the doors open to the main lobby. I throw my apple core into a trash can and walk out onto the side walk.

I walk through the busy town out into the suburbs and then head to my school.

I see younger kids riding bikes or skateboards. I just smile when they pass and keep walking.

I walk in and go strait to my locker. I open it and grab my books.

"Nora." Says someone.

I turn and see Matt. He's a friend I've had since kindergarten.

"Hey Matt." I say as I close my locker and face him.

He stands next to me, "How are you?"

"Meh, I'm ok."

He laughs, "Same. Have you heard of Silver Shadow and Silver Shifter?" He says excitedly.

"Yes I have." I say.

"They are so cool! I really want to meet them!" He says.

"That would be really cool." I say.

I should surprise Matt after school one day with Kai. When he's back in town.

"Well have to get to class, I'll see you later Matt." I say.

"Later Nora." He says.

We split ways and go to class.

In my class I look around and see Kai's empty seat. I sigh.

I hope he's back soon.
