Chapter Four
Riker's POV
Seventy six days. Over two months. It still didn't seem fair to him. Rydel was innocent in everything that had happened, yet she was still fighting for her life.
They all went to visit her at least once a day. Sometimes he went twice. Sometimes he didn't leave all day. He would just sit beside her bed, and read to her all day long.
He wondered if she could hear them. Even if she couldn't, he still told her all about their lives. What they did, where they went, who they were with. He hoped she could hear them.
They had to cancel the shows from September on. They couldn't do it without Rydel. He hoped the fans understood, but family came first.
She missed her 20th birthday. It should have been a happy day. They should have been able to celebrate it as a family, but they didn't even know she was alive then. He made a pact with himself to get her a cake when she woke up.
That was two months ago. Now it was October 18th.
He went in that day with a hairbrush and a bottle of pink nail polish. He used to laugh at her when she would paint her nails a new colour every week. Now, he made sure it was done.
This week he chose a light pink. He also brought some music to put in for them to listen to.
He started with her toenails. He sat at the end of her bed, and very carefully painted her nails. When he finished, he did her fingernails.
It was a time he looked forward to every week. He wondered what colour her nails would be when she woke up. Would they be pink, or would they be blue? He hoped she liked them.
Next he took the hair brush, and gently brushed out the small tangles that had formed in her hair.
When he was done, he sat back in the chair, and smiled at her. He missed her hazel eyes, and the way they would disappear when she smiled.
He missed her laugh, her sweet, contagious laugh. The way she would giggle at the slightest things. Whenever she laughed, they would all seem to catch on. He wanted really badly to laugh again.
But he missed her hugs the most. Every morning, she would help their mom make breakfast. When him and his brothers finally dragged themselves out of bed, she would greet them all with a hug. He looked forward to it every morning.
Then when she went to bed every night, he returned the favour. He would hug her and kiss her forehead. Every day since she was three. It was their little tradition. He missed it.
But he still kissed her forehead before he left every day. He wanted her to know that he was still there for her. She would never be alone.
"I love you Delly" he said as he stood up to leave. "Sweet Dreams"
