                                                                                       Chapter 6

"Magic's just science that we don't understand yet."                                                                                                                            -Arthur C. Clarke

"Iris? Ris? Rissy! Wake up for god's sake kid! Wake up Rissy! For the love of choclate wake up!" Rhys was yelling. I heard it. I couldn't see him, but I imagined him pacing the floor when he was mumbling. "I can't lose you too, Rissy. Please wake up. This is all my fault..." "Wha- what happened?" I said "Rissy!" He ran over and hugged me."I mean, Ris... Err... That was really scary. You kinda unleashed a mini tornado thinger around ya, you inhaled it all, and it just... here. You might wanna see for yourself. " He brought over a small, body-sized mirror. Still on the groundI looked up at myself. "I- I'm a-" "You're a what?" "A genie! But, how? Why?" I tried to stand, but my knees buckled and I fell down hard. "Easy there, girl. Stay there. I'll get you a chair." He spoke as if I was a spooked horse. I wasn't a horse, but I sure was spooked. I held my face in my hands, panicked. "How did this happen? I mean, it was all just a crazy scientific anomaly, right? I guess that stuff was just some weird, chemical reaction to the oxygen? This couldn't possibly be-" "Magic. It was magic. It was definately magic." Rhys tried to dispell the skepticism we both had. "It was not magic. Magic is just something people call scientific oddities they don't understand." "Ris, this time, it had nothing to do with science. That thing came from Lyric. It came from beyond the grave. No science is ever gonna connect those dots to what just happened." I looked at him, right into his big, blue eyes, sparkling with... with what? Wonder? Awe? Love? I thought. No. He didn't- wouldn't feel that way about me- or anyone. Not after Lyric.
