Chapter 12
"Secrets, secrets are no fun, unless you share with everyone." - Friends of the Author
Sadez and Tessy half pushed-half dragged me to Mrs. Hatfeild's room, the nurses office. Once we got there the nurse asked in a monotonous voice, "State your name, your grade, and your problem." That nurse never payed attention to anyone, except Sadie and I. We always volunteered as the nurse's helpers for the week. Sadie quickly responded "This is Iris Slade. She's a Sophmore, and she really does not look good..." The nurse finally looked up from her ancient laptop. "Oh, you're right. Umm, how do you feel?" I looked at her worried face. "Well, I feel kinda light headed, and my stomach kinda hurts..." "Come here. You can go, girls. Thanks for helping her here." She put the back of her hand against my forehead as I watched Sadie and Courtesy leave sadly, with their shoulders slumped. "You feel awfully warm, child. Maybe I should call your mom-" "No." Nurse Hatfeild gave me a questioning look. "My mom would never want me out of school." I lied. "Can't you just gimme some motrin or sumthin', and I'll be on my way?" She could tell I was lying, but cut me some slack. "Fine. Just, come back after school to check in with me, okay?" She handed me two small, orange pills and a dixie cup filled with water. I swallowed one, coughed a little. Swallowed the second, coughed some more. "Thank you." As I was leaving and coughing, Mrs. Hatfeild shouted after me, "And don't get anyone else sick!"
