When I got back to the loft of course Derek wasn't home so I went ahead and headed up to bed. Around 3 in the morning I hear the loft door clamor open and voices.

"You really don't have to do this." A voice says.

"Please you're like family. I'm not leaving you on the streets like that." Derek says.

"I wouldn't have been on the streets." The voice argues.

"It's not an option." Derek sternly says as I land on the last step.

"What's going on-" I stop short when my eyes meet the blue eyes of my childhood best friend. "Oh my god Jake!"

"Well hey Puppy." He smiles brightly.

Smiling wide I run up and hug him. His arms wrap around my waist as he lifts me off the ground. "What are you doing here?" I ask laughing as he sets me back down.

Jake's face drops a little but he quickly pulls it together and forced out a smile. "I'm home." He grins.

Let me tell you a bit about Jake and I's history. Before the fire there use to be two packs roaming Beacon Hills; the Hale Pack and the Killian Pack. Our families were closer than anyone could imagine, and me and Jake closer than that.

Jake and I grew up together, though he never attended school with us because the Killian pack home schools their betas. I told Jake the things I never could tell Scott and Stiles. The struggles of learning control, the pain of turning unwillingly, and the battle with finding an anchor. Anything and everything relating to werewolves I confided in Jake, he understood.

"How long are you here for?" I ask excitedly.

Jake looked between me and Derek. "Uh well as long as I'm welcome." He says lowly.

"You're welcome to stay as long as you need. You're family." Derek says squeezing Jake's shoulder.

"Well thank you. And I promise I'll pay rent, what ever you want." Jake assures.

"Don't think about it. Now off to bed you two, I believe you have cross country practice and you have you're first day of school." Derek says before ushering us off to bed.

Jake begins to follow me up the stairs but Derek stops him. "Uh Jake the guest room is down this hall." He points out to the hall downstairs.

Jake's face grows red as he smiles sheepishly. "Right."

"Are you ready for your first day of school?" I ask Jake as I drive to the school.

"I feel like I'm going to throw up." He admits looking sick in the passenger seat.

"You'll do fine." I assure him.

"I don't know about that." He mutters.

"Look the key to Beacon Hills is friends and sports." I say. "Look why don't you join the cross country team with me? The first practice is today so you haven't missed anything." I offer.

"I don't know Devin, cross country?" Jake questions.

"Please please please J. Come on are you really going to pass up a chance to spend more time with me." I pout as I put the car in park in my spot.

Jake rolls his eyes and lets out a sigh. "I suppose I could use a little more puppy time." He winks. In case you're wondering yes puppy is my nickname from Jake.

"Awww yay thank you, thank you, thank you!" I exclaim throwing my arms around him. "Now come on let's get goJaing." I say climbing out.

Slowly Jake climbs out of the car and appears next to me. "Ok I'm ready. I can do this." He breathes out.
