(unedited)
Seeing the other man casually approach him, Gene didn't feel anything good from it but he managed to keep a smile on his face.
Dylan settled uninvited into the booth and opposite Gene, his eyes firm like a slab of stone.
He said. "Taking the kid out to play?"
Kid? Gene refused to admit this is what he had thought earlier too. Their minds were too alike for his comfort. Coughing lightly, Gene steered the conversation towards more important matters.
"Is there something you want?"
Dylan showed a rare, playful smile. "Nothing inportant."
Gene's eyes flashed but he chose not to say anything. He saw no point in entertaining with this type of man. Once you started, you wouldn't know where to end. He should know since he shared a similar temperament but seeing that he was in the reverse position for the first time, Gene felt irritated and unsettled.
Dylan spread his arms across the back of the booth, his posture full of the arrogance he wore on his face.
"You should be at home resting." Dylan said but it lacked the sentiment. He reached over and took the glass from Gene's hand, sipping through the little straw the other man had already claimed. His eyebrows bunched together as he looked into the clear liquid and said. "Since when did you like gin and tonic?"
Only then did he look up to see Genes reaction but he couldn't read anything from the mans face and he felt a little surprised at heart - only a little.
Gene stared Dylan right in the eyes and said. "My tastes must have changed after I lost my memories."
The implication in that sentence didn't go unnoticed, and Dylan's eyes turned into dangerous slits.
The music thumping around the two men had intensified during that moment and the air around them had turned into a haze of flashing lights. Even seated in an area where the music was purposely lowered for comfort and the lights were dimmed, the atmosphere was no different from the lower levels. The urge to dance or lose themselves in another's embrace was tempting for many - maybe more so.
But for gene, he had lost the mood for anything when the other man had joined him. If he had to compare his feelings right now, he'll say it was like a elephant was stampeding around in his gut.
Gene ordered another drink since his was taken and while he waited for it, he tried his best to ignore the other man still staring at him from across the table. He immediately gave up on trying to get anything useful from this man and it was mostly due to the grudge he held since last they met. Gene wasn't one to lightly forget or forgive.
But maybe it was due to his body's original attraction that Gene ended up looking back at the man and saying loudly enough for the other man to hear the chill in his words, "If you have something to say, then spit it out."
What Dylan said next almost caused Gene to choke on air.
"Come home with me."
Is he trying to pick me up? Why me? I thought his relationship with Cia was one sided...
Recovering from the shock, Genes lips curled mockingly and he countered. "Aren't you suppose to save those words for your date? There is a pretty lady watching you from the booth you just left. She looks good enough to take home."
Dylan merely said. "Are you an old man? And don't act presumptuous."
Gene almost choked for a completely different reason this time. His face turned like a sheet of ice and he angrily clicked his tongue. Being called an old man...that was a first for him. Did it piss him off? How could it not...As for being called presumptuous; he could only curse his choice of words.
