I mean it

She wanted to surprise Lindsey, so Stevie didn't say anything to him, before she got on a plane to come back to Los Angeles. She was excited, a little nervous, a little anxious, but she was mostly excited about seeing him again, even though it had only been a couple of days that she spent at her parents'.

Glad she only had one suitcase, Stevie took a cab, giving the driver the address, she sat back trying to calm herself down. When she spoke to Lindsey on the phone, he wasn't hesitant to tell her he loved her again, but there was still a small part of her, saying she shouldn't be too happy just yet. What if something had changed while she was away? What if an old flame returned to Lindsey? What if one of his ex girlfriends' told him she was pregnant? Uh, stop!!! , Stevie shook herself mentally. Everything was going to be fine.

It was still very early in the morning, when the cab stopped by Stevie and Lindsey's home, she practically jumped out, anxious for the driver to take her suitcase out of the trunk, as she paid him quickly once he did so. She rummaged through her handbag for the keys and as quietly as possible unlocked the front door, listening for any action, but it was deathly silent.

First, Stevie went to her own room, leaving her things for later unpacking, as she wanted to take a quick shower. She was finished in about fifteen minutes, with a towel wrapped around her, she stood in front of the mirror, brushing her hair. She then tossed away the towel and put on her silk robe, droplets of water from her hair soaking it. It was no secret that Lindsey adored her scent, so she sprayed just a little of her perfume that he preferred.

Hoping that Lindsey was still sound asleep, Stevie tiptoed to his door and slowly twisted the doorknob, finding him spread across the bed on his front, arms under the pillow, clearly still in deep sleep. She smiled a little to herself, walking over to him, as she slipped in beside him. She lay her head on a pillow he hadn't occupied, just staring at him for a moment, before she ran her fingers through his hair and did it again several times more.

Lindsey stirred after a minute, at first alarmed, but he didn't even have to open his eyes to know just who exactly was next to him. A smile spread across his face, as he brought his one arm down and around her, drawing her closer and burying his face in her neck.

"I've missed you."

"I've missed you, too." Stevie replied, trailing a finger up and down his naked back.

"Why didn't you tell me you were coming back? I would have come and got you."

"I know you would have, but I wanted to surprise you. Besides, it's still early, I didn't want to bother you."

"Oh come on, you know I would have come to you gladly."

She wanted to drop the subject, because it didn't matter anymore, so she snuggled in closer if it was possible, Lindsey now basically lying on top of her. After a moment of comfortable silence, Lindsey asked.

"Can you tell me, what you told me on the phone?"

"What?"

"You know..."

"You mean, can I tell you that I love you?" He smiled again, shaking his head slightly, placing a small kiss on her shoulder. "What?"

"It's just so surreal. I mean, a couple of short months ago we were nothing to each other. We were set up by our teams, purely for publicity reasons and here we are now, in each other's arms, just us, saying, I love you."

"Well, I guess it was meant to be. I don't know about you, but I'm quite happy."

"Are you kidding, Steph? I just... I don't even know how to tell you how happy I am. We haven't known each other for a year, five or ten years, but I feel like I really do know you. From the very beginning I felt something, I just didn't know what it was. I hated seeing you with Don, I was wondering to myself all the time, what does he have that I don't? I wanted to be around you as much as possible, I wanted to talk to you, I just wanted you to... to notice me, I don't know how else to put it. It wasn't easy, but at the same time it was, to admit to you I had feelings for you. I honestly thought you'd think I'm crazy. I did feel like I scared you or whatever, when I told you, but I had to, I wanted you to know. When I found out you felt the same... I truly have never been happier."

"You'll make me cry." She whispered, but she wasn't sad. "No man had ever spoken to me and about me with such passion."

"Well, then they have no idea what they'd lost. It's over now, because you're mine. And I'm not letting you go." Saying that, he tightened his hold on her.

"Oh really? I don't recall you asking me a question along the lines of, would you like to be my girlfriend." She teased, causing him to laugh lightly.

"Steph, we're married."

"I know, but... it's not..." She struggled with what she wanted to say.

"I get it." Lindsey said. "So, would you like to be my girlfriend?"

"Yes, I would." The corners of her lips turned up.

Kissing her on the cheek, he also inhaled deeply. "I mean it, I'm not letting you go."

"I hope not."

They fell silent after that, Stevie's fingers combing through Lindsey's hair from time to time, it not only relaxing him, but her as well. She stopped after a while and Lindsey wanted to ask her to continue, but he lifted his head up, seeing her eyes shut and her breathing was even. Now he watched her sleep peacefully, whispering he loved her as he too closed his eyes and eventually drifted off again.
