Five months had passed. Five months since the wedding. So much had happened during all that time. Most importantly during those months, Stevie and Lindsey found their way to each other. In Stevie's opinion, this was a day worth celebrating. She'd been in great spirits lately, so she wanted to mark yet another month they had spent together.
Lindsey would be spending the better part of the day at the studio with his band, which meant Stevie had hours to be prepared to welcome him home in the evening. She wasn't a chef by no means, but she would often spend time with her mother as a little girl, watching her Mom cook for their family. She knew she wasn't going to be able to throw a feast, but she sure was going to serve a home cooked meal.
Coming back from the grocery store, Stevie lay down the bags she brought back on the kitchen counter, then dropped her handbag off her shoulder and went back into the hall to kick off her boots. She didn't leave the house without wearing those. All the while she was trying to do these things Bella was wagging her tail and trailing behind Stevie, wanting some attention.
"Please, girl, wait a minute." Stevie barely scratched Bella's fur reentering the kitchen. She took a few minutes sorting out everything she bought, putting some things into the fridge, leaving others on the kitchen counter that she would soon need. "Well, what do you want, huh?" She finally bent over, scratching behind Bella's ear. "Would you like to go outside?" At that the dog started jumping and barking, already running towards the door to the backyard. Once Bella was out, Stevie could finally start on making dinner.
It was around six pm, when the phone started ringing and it was Lindsey, informing Stevie he would be home in no more than an hour. Great timing, she thought, having just about finished, so she still had about half an hour or so to quickly shower and change her clothes, she decided to forgo putting on makeup.
Stevie had just gotten out of the shower, when Lindsey entered through the front door, right away Bella jumping on him. She was getting bigger and while not big enough to completely push him backwards, Lindsey still stumbled a bit.
"Wow, Bella, you're getting big! Has Mommy been giving you treats in secret like I've been doing too?"
"What was that?" Stevie raised an eyebrow, having heard what he just said, as she was coming down the stairs.
"Oh, nothing, baby." He smiled, trying his best to appear innocent. "Mmm, you smell nice." He breathed in her scent, hugging her.
"Maybe because I just took a shower. You should too."
"Excuse me?"
"At least go change, you reek of cigarette smoke and pot."
"Oh, that. Yeah, you're probably right." Lindsey agreed. "About ten of us in the same room since morning. What do you expect?"
"Less talking, more taking off your clothes." Stevie ordered, also showing him upstairs.
"I kind of like it, you ordering me around." Lindsey smirked, starting to unbutton his shirt.
Stevie only rolled her eyes. "Don't take too long, I've cooked us dinner."
"Okay." He smiled at her lovingly, then turned to jog up the stairs.
Like asked, Lindsey was making his way into the kitchen in less than ten minutes, taking a seat at the table, Stevie placing a plate in front of him as soon as he was sitting down.
"What's the occasion?" He joked, but the look on Stevie's face told him that there indeed was an occasion. "Before you start hating me, I'm sorry Steph, I'm so busy at the studio at the moment, I honestly forgot."
"It's... It's alright. It's not that important, I just thought it would be nice to spend some quality time together tonight. After all, it's been five months since we got married."
"Babe, I'm sorry, I really am." He got up and embraced her, but she actually didn't seem to be too upset.
"No, I get it. I know that your mind's occupied with other things. It's okay." She gave him a small smile and let him kiss her, seeing he genuinely felt bad. "Now, sit down and eat, otherwise it will get cold."
"I didn't know you could cook." Lindsey said, once they began eating.
"I don't do that often, I just thought I'd try. Is it any good?"
"Of course it is." Lindsey nodded, reaching for her hand across the table. "Thank you. I really appreciate your effort. I fully intend to make it up to you."
Stevie just waved it off.
As they were eating in silence, Stevie thought that Lindsey's demeanor changed from when he came home and to when she reminded him of their anniversary. He appeared troubled somehow.
"Linds, is everything okay?"
"Um, yeah. All is good." He faked a smile.
"No, it's not. Come on, tell me." She urged him.
"Why don't we finish dinner first?"
"Sure." So, there was something he had to tell her. "I've got something to tell you, too." She smiled, without elaborating.
Once they were done eating, Lindsey offered to clean up the kitchen, saying it was the least he could do and Stevie didn't disagree, taking a seat on the couch in the living room, waiting for him to join her. He's probably going on tour, Stevie sighed. When they got together, Lindsey was already nearing the end of finishing his album, so this made total sense. She didn't want him to leave though, she knew how dangerous touring was; alcohol, drugs, women.
Feeling Lindsey place his hands on her shoulders, Stevie looked up and smiled at him, showing him to sit down beside her. "So, what is it?"
"Maybe you go first?" He suggested.
"No, you."
"Why not you?"
"Are we seriously doing this?" Stevie questioned.
"Okay, why don't we do it at the same time?"
She laughed at first, but then shrugged her shoulders. "Fine. On three. One, two, three... I'm pregnant!"
"I think we should get divorced." He finished alone...
