School is finally out. I am a million times more relieved than anyone ever can be. I get a text from my dad- 'Can't pick you up today. Txt me when you leave and get home.' I smile and text him that I'm leaving. As I walk home, a boy I have never seen before walks up beside me. "Hello." He says. He looks like he's 10 or 11. I chuckle. "Hello, what's your name?" I ask. He just chuckles a bit and says, "They don't normally ask until later." I am so confused right now. "Well, my name is Mary." I am determined to be polite. "I'll be at your door later. Do me a favor- let me in." He tells me. I give him my 'what are you talking about moron' look and he smiles and walks away. I shrug and walk on home. On the front step, I see a strange red box with a clear top. I look inside and see that it's a bunch of red velvet chocolate chip cupcakes with seemingly cream cheese frosting. "Yes!" I whisper to myself, and take the cupcakes inside. I text my dad to tell him I am home, and then stare at the dozen cupcakes in the box. I eat three and put the box in the fridge. I trot around the house a few minutes, happy to be alone in it. The doorbell rings and I stop. My dad wouldn't be at the front, and my siblings aren't out yet. I look out the window and see that boy from before smiling at me. He sees me and puts up a piece of paper to the window with the words are you alone. I look at it for a minute, a bit scared. Eventually my curiosity gets the better of me, and I open the door to him. He grins at me and says, "Ah! You did remember me. That's good." I laugh and respond, "It wasn't even thirty minutes ago." He shrugs and states, "Sometimes they forget in around ten." I laugh. He chuckles along before introducing himself, "My name is... Well I'll tell that later. Call me 'tester' I suppose, for now." I'm very confused, but I try to be happy. "Well, I'll just have to nickname you. 'Tester' is not a name." I think for a minute. "Tessie will do." I declare. He laughs and says, "Alright!" As he walks in. "Don't stay too long my dad and my siblings will be home soon." I say cautiously. He shrugs. Oh whatever, they won't mind, I guess. He seems important. "Mary, right?" He asks. I'm a bit shocked he knows my name, but I nod. He pulls a little notebook out of his pocket and writes in it. "And you are..." He looks at me a sec, "12? 11?" He says. I frown a bit. "13..." I respond and he apologizes. He writes some stuff down muttering "female" and such. He finally looks up and says, "What color are your eyes? I can't see from here as well. Brown? Hazel? Maybe green." He says. "Brown. Oh, but greenish when I cry." I say. He writes more. "If you could describe yourself in..." He looks down at his notes and back up, "five words, what would they be?" I chuckle. What is this kid doing anyways? "Uhm, I guess lazy..." I think a minute. "Smart!" I continue, "Manipulative, emotional." And I think some more before saying "misunderstood." And he nods. "About what I thought. Except for manipulative. Oh well." We both shrug and he walks out waving behind him. "Cya Mare!" He says. "Cya Tes!" I reply and shut the door and lock it. Just a minute after, my siblings are home. My sister on her phone, and my brother rolling his eyes and sighing at her. I decide to lighten the mood, "Hey, I have red velvet cupcakes in the fridge, you can have some if you like." They both bright up at my words and race for the fridge. I sigh happily and sit down to play on my phone. I see its 10% so I instead head to my room and charge it, playing on my computer instead. I have the feeling I'm being watched but I brush it off. After a couple hours I hear the doorbell ring and I head down to check it out. I see Tessie at the window looking at me. He holds up the sign again, 'are you alone' and I shake my head. He nods in understanding and gestures to the door. My sister is on the stairs, and she says "Who iiiis it!" Grumpily. "My friend." I reply. I guess Tes is my friend now? I let him in and lead him to my room. The first thing out of his mouth is, "This is going to be really weird, but just know I even asked your parents if I could do these tests. Don't freak out." And I give him a confused look. "I just need you to tell me how you feel after I press some buttons on my little device here." He says as he pulls out some odd remote. It's got a bunch of different colored buttons on it, and an up/down thing, like a volume button. He presses a button and I sit down. I'm really rather angry at him. I have no idea why though. "Any odd emotions?" He asks. I look at him and he gives me a nasty smile. Is he trying to make me angry?! I bite my lip and say "I suppose I'm a bit angry." Through teeth. He nods and hits the button at the top. The odd sensation is gone. He clicks another and I am relaxed. Very relaxed, and calm as a rocking chair. I smile and lean back. "Relaxing." I say before he can ask anything. "On a scale of one to ten-" "Oh, it's a ten." Before he can finish I respond. He hits the top button and it's gone. I'm pretty angry again but he hasn't hit anything. "What are you doing? Stop screwing with me." I nearly yell. He looks confused until he hits another button on his remote, and then nods. He gives me a bracelet, "Put it on." He demands calmly. I put it on cautiously and I'm not angry. I am Ina bit of shock, since he is screwing with my emotions this way. I nod, symbolizing I'm not angry, and sighs. "It's you for sure. I'll call your parents, you are coming with me." He tells me. Wait, coming with? He grabs my suitcase and starts filling it. Wha...
