Josh sat in detention, for the fourth time this month. He wached out the window blankly as the world rushed past, people going home or to another afterschool activity. Josh didn't care that he couldn't go leave, he didn't want to leave.
He sat there, immobilized by a million thoughts if what might happen when he got home. Rumours in his, extraordinarily religious, school had spread that he was gay, Josh tried putting them off, but his brother eventually heard. At first Jordan thought nothing of it, sure that all of the rumours were lies, but soon he became suspicious.
Earlier that day, Josh's big brother decided to confront  him. Josh was exhausted with lying, so he told his brother the truth. That truely was a horrible mistake, Jordan freaked out, he threatened to tell their parents. Josh left the house before his brother could call them.
Josh sat the remainder of detention and then slowly walked home. His anxiety boiling over the top and coming out as burning tears, they flooded his eyes and traced down the sides of his face. When the sight of the front door of his house came into sight, Josh walked around the block once - twice - seven times in total.
Until for once, he wasn't the only one crying, tears fell from the eyes of the sky, falling onto the earth's surface, quick and cold. Josh knew he had to go to his house, not knowing what may lay inside he wondered if it was even worth going, but he did. He slowly opened the door, and when he did he heard a voice, loud and angry.
"Joshua Dun. For your sake I hope to God that your brother is a filthy liar." Josh knew that this would be the last time he opened this door.
Josh's brother began speaking almost too proud to have turned on his own brother,
"No dad, I'm not lying. Your son is a disgusting homosexual."
Josh looked, his eyes pleaded for his dad to change his mind, but they both knew that wouldn't happen.
"I will not harbour a gay boy."
"Dad," Josh pleaded, his voice weak, "I-I'm not a criminal." He stuttered.
"Might as well be." His dad yelled, "Its wrong."
Josh stood there, shaking, crying, letting his dad tell him how horrible he was, for being himself.
"Joshua." His dad said, sternly, "Get your things and leave. We don't want you here."
Josh stared at the man. The one who used to tell him he was important. The one who just told him he wasn't.
He walked to his room and gathered his things into his backpack, his school things, a blanket, his wallet, his favorite clothes. He had so much more to get when his dad continued telling for him to leave, this time with more aggression, he grabbed his son pushing him out of his room. Josh stumbled, and began to walk much faster, he put on his shoes, as his dad told him to hurry up while slapping him in the face.
Josh walked out the door, of the place he once called home. His father slammed shut the door. Josh walked down the steps, crying, wet and in so much pain. He was confused about so many things, about how his brother could betray him, about how his father could simply hate him for who he was attracted to. He didn't know where to go. So he walked up to the school, and sat next to the doors. He sat for hours, crying, thinking, hoping someone would hear him and help. But nevertheless no one ever came. And eventually, even the sun left Josh, hiding behind the trees, abandoning him. He stayed there, no where to go. Soon, he grew exhausted from crying and shivering, the darkness slowly serounded him, and he fell asleep.
