Tyler listened to the world around him. Sirens buzzed, people talked around him, his mother talked on her cell phone in the background.
He knew that even though he only remembered three major hits to his body, many more were made. He wanted to ask what had happened, but he couldnt, plus they wouldn't be able to tell him. He felt as the ambulance stopped, and he was lifted and rolled to a bed.
Tyler laid there for minutes that felt like years, his broken vision came out in blurry colours, sounds were not worth focusing on, so all he was able to do was lay there and think. The thoughts of what could have caused the pain polluted his memory, he asked himself if there could be broken bones? A concussion?

But Tyler had heard as a second sound peirced through the white noise, a voice he only heard once, a voice he probably owed a lot to.

"Who are you?" Tylers mother questioned.

"I-um I was the one who scared away Tylers attackers, and I called the, um, ambulance."

A change of tone bit at Tylers mothers voice, Tyler could tell that she had moved closer to Josh, presumably hugging him,

"Thank you," she let out in a faint whisper.

"Miss, we have the results of Tyler Josephs X-ray." A middle aged woman spoke.

"Ok." Miss Joseph prepared herself.

"He has a cracked rib bone and a minor concussion. He should be able to make a full recovery, but will need to stay here for a couple nights, and continue with the severe pain killers."

Tyler didn't like the sound of what they were saying, he couldn't really swallow so the pain killers had to come from a needle, he hated needles.

"Excuse me, is your name Josh, you fit Tylers description of a boy named Josh." Tylers mother spoke oddly casualy,
"Um, yeah, I'm Josh," he said shocked, had Tyler really noticed Josh as much as Josh noticed him?.

"Josh, did you see much of what they did to Tyler?" Miss Joseph spoke,

"Yeah, kinda, they kicked him and hit him against a tree. But there was also one guy who smashed a glass bottle over his back while he was throwing up."
"Gosh," Tylers mother looked shocked,"My poor boy."

"I don't mean to be rude, but Josh, I gotta head back to school before they call my mom. You coming?"

Josh thought for a moment, "I think I'll catch up with you later. I'll take a cab, or maybe stay the night, I have no where else to go."

"Oh Josh honey, I'll take you in, Tyler heard all about your fight with your mom from that Wentz boy. If you like you can stay a couple nights in our spare room," Tylers mother offered.

Josh nodded, happy that he didn't have to sleep on concrete again.

"Okay, well I'm off, so tell Tyler when he regains ability to function, that I was here." Frank said, twirling his keys on his finger and walking out of the room.

"Josh, I'm going to go to see what kinds of food they have, would you like me to bring you something?" Tylers mother offered.

Josh really needed something to eat, the hunger pain in his stomach felt like it would burn through his shirt.
"Um ya, I haven't really eaten for almost twenty four hours." Josh said, then added, "If that's okay."

"Definitely, I'll be back soon dear."
She walked out of the room, leaving only Josh and Tyler.

Tyler could feel the silence laying over him like a blanket, it was odd, not being able to change the sway of words. So he listened, he heard Josh hum the toon of an old love song. Tyler admired Josh's voice, it was like wearing your favourite sweater, it was warm and beautiful.

Tyler knew he should sleep, and for once, he tried. Slipping through the thin difference between consciousness and sleep, finally, the mix of intense pain medication and Josh's voice mumbling to himself, set him into a different world, one where he wasn't broken.
