I don't know how long we sat there, with my back leaning against the stall wall and Kyle crouching in front of me.
He has been trying to calm my breaths since we came in here, and it is finally working. I don't know why I reacted so much, when I knew this yesterday, but I guess I didn't really see the seriousness.
"Okay, I'm good. We can go now, my parents must be worried," I say breathlessly and look up at Kyle, some of my blond curls shielding my face.
"You need some water," Kyle mutters as he helps me up from my sitting position.
I just nod, not in the mood to argue him on this. Mostly because he's right, my body feels absolutely dry, if that is even possible.
I look at myself in the mirror and nearly flinch. It looks like I just died. Wait, no, don't mention anything that has to do with me dying. If so, I think I might throw up again. Now I just have to pull myself together and show my parents that I'm fine.
"You ready?" Kyle asks from behind me.
He has his arm rested around my waist, holding tightly.
"Yeah, sorry. It just suddenly came over me," I say and move away from him and to the door.
My head is still dizzy and my knees feels like they will buckle beneath me any second, but I put on a smile.
Mom and dad are still sitting at the table and talking calmly. We stride towards them, Kyle pulling out the chair for me and I say a small thank you.
"What happened?" Dad asks as I drink up my glass with water.
It feels good to finally wash away the foul taste that was left after my little visit in the bathroom.
"Oh nothing much, probably just something I didn't digest well," I say and smile reassuringly.
It doesn't look like they believe me, but they let it go, well until my mom jumps up in happiness.
"Maybe you are pregnant!" She exclaims and pull me into a tight hug.
My eyes widen and I shake my head frantically, looking over at Kyle for some kind of help.
"That isn't possible, like it is impossible," I say nervously, knowing how weird that sounded, and push a now confused mother away from me and back in her seat.
Both me and mom stare at each other for what seems like years until she moves her gaze to my father.
"Nathaniel, could you and Kyle go to the grocery shop while me and Samantha can finish up here?" She asks and immediately I feel Kyle tense beside me.
Wait, he can't leave me. What if those people come here and kill me, or worse, my mom?
"No!" I say and stand up, smiling nervously at them and then at Kyle who looks at me with furrowed brows.
"Let me and Kyle do that. There are some things I need there," I continue and are already on my way to the exit.
"Can't you just ask them to buy it for you?" I hear my mom shout from the inside.
Jeez, she couldn't be more discreet? I clear my throat and wave Kyle over to me and surprisingly he does it without a second thought.
"Lady stuff," I say and with that I am out the door.
"Oh God, that must be the worst dinner I've had with my parents and a boy."
Kyle chuckles and sling an arm around my shoulder, showing me the car where we parked it.
