In The Midst Of A Crowd

Chapter 6

Walking into the cafeteria wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. James, Colin and Lucas ran off to go and find some of the other football guys, including my brothers, so I didn't receive any attention... at first. Nobody watched as Peyton and I walked and got in to line for food. I grabbed a hot dog and a salad plus a chocolate milk and Peyton grabbed a salad and a smoothie. We walked to the till and I began pulling out my wallet, but someone stopped me. I look up to see Colin giving the money to the lunch lady instead of me. I give him a slight nod as Peyton and I start walking towards the table with and eager Katie and a shocked Renee. We're about halfway there when Colin comes running after me and stops me. All eyes are on us now. Great. Just great.

"Are you okay A? You weren't originally supposed to be in my class and you seemed really upset in Spanish but you were just fine in the other classes." he asks me quietly.

"I'm fine Colin, I think it was just the jitters because I haven't spoken a different language in a few months. Thanks for lunch." I reply.

"I don't really believe you, but I hope you know that you can trust me with anything" He says softly with admiration in his eyes.

"I know Colin, and thank you, but I'm just not comfortable talking about it. At least not right now. If you'll excuse me I have three friends behind you probably wondering what happened this morning. I will see you later." and with that I walk around him to take a seat next to Katie with everyone watching me, even James.

"What was that all about?" Katie whispers to me.

"I'll tell you later. Peter's then a sleepover?" I ask (Peter's is a drive-in where I live so I wanted to include it.)

"Of course. My house. I'll let Chase and James know later." She replies. I just nod and take a but of my hot dog. So good! I finish my hot dog quickly and when I look up I notice that Peyton, Katie and Renee are all looking at me with expectant looks. Guess it's time to explain. Here goes nothing.

I'm sorry about the cliffhanger again but I like it this way. If you guys have any ideas for what should happen next chapter (it'll be from the conversation between the four girls to the end of lunch) please feel free to comment it or PM it.

Today was the third day of school and I'm already stressed. So as the year goes on updates may become less frequent. I'm really sorry if that does happen, but school is my #1 priority and I need to focus on that.
