“Wait a minute, what's happening?”
“Oh my god...look!”
"It worked! Amazing! Extraordinary!"
Darius remembered returning from school one day after a long day of bullying by him (ugh, I hate to think about it), and spotting his brother Nolan packing his bags, with his mother watching in sadness, a tear streaking down her cheek. With his understanding, Darius could see clearly what was going on.
Nolan, now 6 years older than Darius at the age of 18, was getting ready to leave home and move into his own flat. Obviously, his mother was very upset at the prospect of him leaving her. She quite highly favoured Nolan over Darius, as could be told by his younger days. I bet that if Darius had moved out, she wouldn't have cared less.
He watched as Nolan walked out of the door after a quick goodbye to his mother, with two handfuls of huge suitcases and he walked on, round a corner, and out of sight. He never got a car or even a drivers license, both because they couldn't afford it and because he probably wouldn't have been able to driver a car in a million years, no matter how hard some old driver instructor tried to teach him. And of course, like any normal mother, she was in a heap on the ground crying her eyes out.
Darius was about to ask her to cry him a river (because he's just that nice), when she suddenly looked up and darted his eyes at him.
“What are you staring at, you little brat!?” she shouted, in a mix of sadness and rage. She threw herself up and began to stride towards him, tears being thrown about all over the place. “You should be ashamed of yourself! Do you not care at all for your brother!? He's done a lot for you, and you probably wouldn't be here without him! When I killed your father, this is why-"
She stopped, realising what she had just said. In her rage and fury and sadness, she had accidentaly told her son her biggest secret that he was never supposed to know. Her mouth was left agape, her eyes drifting away while tears streamed down, as if she wasn't in the real world anymore, as if she was kind of day dreaming off into her own world. Darius was frozen to the spot. He couldn't believe what he had just heard. His own mother had killed his father? Why? He couldn't comprehend it, and he too was soon stuck in a world of his own, and he too was crying uncontrollably.
"John..." his mother whispered to the air, looking scared for some reason. "I'm so sorry..." And then she fell to the floor - she had passed out.
Darius could have done anything; he could have pulled a prank on her as revenge, or punch her until all the rage had escaped him, or even report her to the police. But he didn't do any of that. His mind was blank. Empty. After what he had just discovered, he couldn't think anything at all. He simply dragged his mother to her favourite couch in front of the TV using his great strength and let her unconscious body slump into it.
He took a moment afterwards to think about his father and his murder for a moment, letting all of his previous rage go to rest while he thought for a moment. It wasn't important how she did it, but what was important was why she did it. She had said something about her doing it because of his brother. Maybe she did it for the safety of Darius? Or the safety of Nolan? And then it struck him. Perhaps she had done it because something Nolan did was his vital to his survival and his father was threatning that. But then he realised that's pretty ridiculous, and I would agree, but I'm just really, really angry at his mother right now. How could she do such a thing? As if her neglection towards him wasn't bad enough, she had to go ahead and do that? I mean seriously. She just kept on making our lives worse, one stupid, idiotic step at a time. Or well, Darius' life, I suppose. While mine was affected, I can't say it was affected all that badly. But poor Darius.... Poor, poor Darius...
His mother refused to talk about the incident again, simply stating that she haden't meant it - supposedly she had just been so angry and upset that something random blurted out of her mouth, but I don't believe her one bit.
This greatly affected his robbery runs and he found himself not going often, and becoming sloppy and sluggish when he did decide to go. Personally, I wish that had carried on through the rest of his life, but all good things must come to an end, I suppose. But one day, when he attempted another robbery run, something very, very different happened that haden't happened before.
When he was about to enter the local shop to attempt to get a pocketful of sweets and chocolates, he felt a tap on his back that sent a chill through his spine. Then he heard a whisper in his ear.
"I'm watching you..."
Darius was frozen to the spot. That was about the scariest thing he had ever heard. It couldn't really get much creepier than that, really. Some creepy guy is watching you. We all know where that leads to. But when Darius turned around, the man was gone. All he saw was a man in a black cloak and hat, with his head hidden in his cloak, striding away quickly. Darius didn't dare try to catch him, but he was now too scared to rob the shop anymore. If that guy was watching him, then he knew that he was robbing the shop, so there was only one thing he could do, unless he wanted the police to come catch him and arrest him or whatnot. Darius was sure there was some kind of kid prison that existed somewhere, and he didn't want to be the next line.
But what he did next was not a good thing. It didn't improve his life at all, because it wasn't what you might expect he would have done. Oh no, he did a bad thing instead. A very bad thing. A terrible thing. A horrendous thing that only made everything else worse. And it was all that man's fault. That stupid man...
