**Soulmate!AU where you see color only when touching your soulmate.  And these are easier in Modern!AUs, so there's that too.**

You were accustomed to the gray tones of the world.  It was monotone and boring sometimes, but there was only one way to change that, and that was to be in contact with your soulmate.  You, being seventeen, were a 'late bloomer' as you had yet to see the color that came with the world.

Most of your friends have and they occasionally tried to explain to you what it was like, but the message never really seemed to go through,

You had heard the names, like red and blue and green and yellow.  You liked the word 'cerulean' used to describe the sky and the word 'orange' used to describe the sunset, which had never been particularly pretty to you.

You mildly wondered if you'd ever get a glimpse of color.  Would you ever meet your soulmate?

"Gray-sama!"  Juvia glomped her soulmate, bringing you out of your thoughts.  It was before school on monday, and you were in the cafeteria.  You shoved your phone in your pocket as you stood.

"Where is [y/n]-san going?"  The clue haired girl blinked up at you.

"I've got to go to the library.  I have a presentation later and I need to rehearse."  You removed yourself fro the table and grabbed your bag and textbook.

Headed to the stairs, you had cursed the crush you still had on a certain Fullbuster.

Someone had been running down the stairs as you turned the corner to go up them, and the person crashed into you.

Groaning, you opened your eyes and there was a boy on his hands and knees on top of you.

You gasped.

His hair was a vivid color, the likes of which almost blinded you, and his skin ad jacket had some too, though his eyes shocked you the most.

You started stammering.  "You- you-" His eyes were also wide and they reminded you of a story  you had read once that had been filled with passion and love and determination.

"And you- oh.  I'm sorry."  The boy climbed to his feet and gathered your books and bag before shoving them into your arms and running off in a panicked manor, many unusual hues fading from your sight..

You now saw why couples always held hands - color was addicting.

Tuesday, you spent looking for the boy again to no avail.

"What did he look like?"  Gray and Juvia, as well as Erza and Jellal, were trying to help you find your soulmate after school.

"He had spiky hair, and oh it was stunning!  It was pale-ish, but warm?" You scavenged your brain, cursing the fact that you had no names for colors.  "He had a dark jacket with a bright trim, and a scarf?  I think it was black and white checkered."  Gray groaned.

"I know him.  He's got the same lunch time as us, I'll show you where he hangs out tomorrow."

your heart sped up.  You'd see your soulmate again!

Lunch, on Wednesday, seemed to take forever to come.  Your day dragged on until the bell finally rang.  You nearly pushed someone out of the way so you could get to the table early.

Gray was already waiting for you.  He took you to the school courtyard.  You were so nervous, you wiped your hands on your jeans before going up to the boy from before and placing your hand on his shoulder.  You blinked as color once more bloomed from the center of your vision - him.

The boy jumped when his world was filled in, and he turned around.  You swallowed thickly.

"Hi.  My name is [y/n]."

You spent the rest of lunch with Natsu, and he was a pretty cool guy.  He was on the school soccer team but as one of his friends, Lucy, said, he almost always was breaking the rules.  Somehow, he never got caught.

Seeing him with his friends, you discovered his true personality, and he was a really good guy.  He was the person you saw in his eyes.

Thursday, you and Natsu went to the school counselor to rester as soul mates, as the government kept track of that for legal reasons.

"Natsu, which color is your favorite so far?"  You and he were sitting in a loveseat waiting for the counselor, thigh to thigh.  Natsu looked around.

"Hmm.  My favorite color...those."  He pointed to your eyes.  "I really with I knew the names of all these colors though.  You nodded, your face warm still from the compliment.

"I don't know what my eyes look like..."  You realized.  Natsu probably didn't know how pretty his eyes were either.

Soon, the required forms were handed to you and your soulmate, and you discovered that Natsu did not like to do paperwork.  You didn't mind it.  You asked him questions, he answered, you wrote it down.  The process took about an hour, but at least you got to skip most of history.

Friday evening,  you asked Nastu to meet you at your house.  When he arrived, you instinctively hugged him.  You yelled at your parents that you'd be back, you were almost late, and then dragged Nastu off to your piece of junk used car.  With little difficulty, you made your way to the perfect spot (which you had scoped out earlier) and parked.  You reached for Natsu's hand on a whim, and he was very warm.

And they were right.  Sunsets were absolutely breathtaking.
