**Soulmate!AU where the first words you hear them say are tattooed on your wrist.**

"You'd better move out of my way, bitch." A tall, muscular, blond man was standing before you, pretty much blocking the sunlight that had been previously shining down on you. You had been harmlessly playing with a kid that you were babysitting (you being sixteen), and then the man with the lightning scar came up and presumed that you could be told what to do.

"Excuse you, but I was here first, so up yours!" You nodded, proud of yourself, before you froze. Well, your limbs refused to move, but your heart beat rapidly. "Shit." You and the stranger looked at your forearms, realizing that the corresponding speech was on your wrists. It was as if you were destined to hate one another.

Laws stated that once you met your soulmate, though, you had to stick together. Awesome.

Laxus was not a patient man. He was handsome, but never did he really pay attention to you. Whenever you had something new to show off concerning your power, he'd have you keep it under wraps. Laxus was a powerful man, and it was if he treated you like a possession. He didn't treat Freed or Bickslow or Evergreen like he did you. They were almost equals, while you were far below.

Late at night, you'd hear Laxus up in his room (you didn't share) writing on paper. Later, when he was gone, hanging around his guild, you'd sneak up into his room and go through his desk. He had plans, apparently for his guild. Honestly, you wondered why your soulmate was the way he was. He refused to tell you anything regarding his past or family, and you wondered why fate would be so cruel to stick you with a man such as Laxus.

Screams were heard outside of your window, and you ran to see what was going on. Yanking back the heavy blackout curtains, you saw smoke raising to the sky, and small yellow orbs floating in the sky by the outskirts of town, at equal intervals. Swallowing, you recognized what was happening. Laxus was.

You pulled the curtains closed once more, and you hurried to your shoes, putting them on before sprinting to the cathedral. You knew your soulmate would be taking refuge there. Alas, you were too late. As you arrived, a familiar blond was being punched unconscious by a pink haired wizard while a black haired one was laying nearby, charred to the point where his face would almost be unrecognizable.

You wandered over to where Laxus had landed, his body reverting to its original state. "Laxus?" You looked at him, gingerly brushing some dirt off of his face. Laxus didn't react, having been rendered inanimate previously. You pulled the man into your lap, noticing how innocent he looked. A spark went off inside of you, and you wondered what Laxus was like, deep down inside. A fire was lit, and it held true, even when Laxus left Magnolia, the first time and during those seven years when he was gone. You kept an eye on his guild, and regretfully, you watched as it fell to the loan shark of a bigger guild.

One morning, you were working in a small cake shop, when your wrist throbbed. You hadn't heard anything about it, so what did it mean? You looked down, and watched as the words on your left wrist rewrote themselves. The black script that once read rude words, now read kind ones. Your heart was galloping. What did it mean?

"Hey, old man?" You called out to your boss, who was quite a bit more knowledgeable than you were. "I have a problem!" The man came over to you, and had a questioning expression. "My tattoo had different words ten seconds ago." You were rather concerned.

The man smiled. "You had a rocky relationship with your soulmate, correct? And it's been a few years since you last saw them?" You nodded, still a bit scared. The old man laughed. "That just means that they've changed! You're going to meet them again, I bet. And this time they'll be nicer. I'll bet my bonus on it!" You nodded once more.

"Ah. Alright. Thanks, boss." You grinned. Was Laxus actually different? Was he going to be better to you than he was before? Was he actually going to be nice? A few days later, you were busy restocking the display case, when the bell above the door went off, signaling a new customer.

"Hey, do you have any strawberry cake? I have a raging guildmate demanding it."

"Yeah, one moment please."

"Alright."

You blinked. You recognized that voice. And those words. You stood suddenly, effectively hitting the counter above the case.

"Ah, shit." You muttered beneath your breath. You looked at the door where a surprised blond was standing, eyes wide. "Laxus?" Hope laced the singular word, the name of a man that was once rude to you.

"[y/n]. Man, I am so sorry. I was a total dick to you, and you put up with it - " You jumped over the counter and hugged the muscular man.

"You're back! I thought that you had left me? You came back!" You laughed, and you could tell that your boss was in the office, grinning. He knew who you had found.

"Yeah. It's a long story. Let me tell you about it tonight over dinner?" You were surprised.

"You're going to let me stay at work?"

"Hehe. Of course. C'mon, I'm not that mean, am I?" You rolled your eyes.

"I'll tell you all about it during dinner."
