It had been a week since Luke had visited Michael. Michael was worried, of course but he knew that he'd return again.
The last time they had seen each other was when Michael was recording 'Invisible' and mind you, when the song had been released the previous day, the response he got was insane.
There were several fans who had asked him if the song was written for Luke and there were multitudinous times that he had to refrain himself telling them that Luke had indeed written that song for him.
The fans went into a frenzy when Cal and Ash had tweeted Michael luck on his single. All of them were happy that neither of the boys had any bad blood between them after their split up. Things were going okay and for once in years, the fam was drama free.
It had merely been twelve hours since the single and the song was already #1 in several countries- thirteen to be specific.
Michael knew that Luke would come back to congratulate him on his success and wasn't proven wrong when Luke barged into Michael's room and four in the morning, a grin etched on his face permanently, his eyes shining with pride.
"Michael!" Luke beamed.
"Luke!"
"Hey, don't burlesque me!" Luke pouted.
"I'm not." Michael chuckled.
"Michael." Luke whined, dragging the 'l' and Michael laughed.
"Congratulations on you single, by the way." Luke smirked, slight trace of arrogance in his eyes.
"Thanks, man." The now lilac haired boy smiled, thanking Luke for both the song and his wishes.
"I'm really proud of you." Luke said and that was what Michael really wanted to hear.
Michael had fulfilled his promise; he made himself proud.
Both of them were in a sheerly joyous mood and nothing could wear off their high.
Bursting with joy and pride, Luke walked over to Michael and hugged him because oh boy, was he proud of his best friend.
They stayed in an embrace for what felt forever and with every fleeting second, all Michael could feel was bliss; pure, utter, complete bliss.
When Luke pulled away, Michael looked at Luke. Really look at him and he didn't like what he was seeing one bit.
Luke was pale- a deadly pale that would scare people away. Michael was worried and sad. Oh God, he was petrified.
He was fearful that one day, he'll wake up and everything would be gloomy. He would feel the absence of Luke.
Sure, the stars would still shine and the sun will rise again, the seasons will change but for Michael, everything would be different.
One day, Luke will be gone and by the looks of it, he was to disappear soon.
Michael noted that Luke had gotten colder and he was already worn out by the walk from his bedroom to the kitchen and that was merely thirty steps.
Fear filled Michael's heart, it started beating faster.
Michael could feel his heart pounding so hard that he felt his rib cage bruising and it was difficult for him to hold in his tears.
Luke however, tried his best to be as energetic as possible but he knew too. He knew that his time was running low and he grabbed every opportunity to show Michael that he loved him.
He wrote down letters for all three of them- Ashton, Calum and Michael, writing down how much he loved them and how big of a role they had played in his life. They stood by his side and they had helped to make their dream come true.
They were his family.
Luke remembers their first recording as if it was yesterday. They had goofed around a lot and that was a memory which was one of his favourite, with the band.
Luke remembers going to the studio a week prior with Michael for moral support. He saw the gratitude clear in Michael's forest green eyes. He knew the lilac haired boy wouldn't be able to do it alone- his anxiety was too much to handle but when Luke was with Michael, everything around felt okay.
Michael lightly punching the younger blonde's shoulder brought him out of his reverie.
"I love you." Michael smiled but it was a sad one.
Michael didn't want to leave anything unsaid.
This time, when Luke disappears, he wants to be happy for him instead of regretting about things he never said.
"And I, you." Luke smiled back, his bright blue eyes, now turning blue.
"I'm gonna miss you, y'know?"
"I'm gonna miss you so much more, Mikey."Luke's eyes watering, and he cried.
Luke actually cried with the tears flowing down his face clearly.
Both of them sat in the kitchen, talking. Saying the things they didn't want to be unsaid; sharing their insecurities and Luke telling Michael about how strong he was and showering him with all his love.
Luke made Michael promise that he wouldn't do anything stupid when Luke finally went away, for good and would chase his dream about which he was so passionate about.
Their quality time was interrupted when Michael's phone rung and he picked it up.
After the call, Michael was left flabbergasted.
"Who was it?" Luke casually asked.
"My single just got nominated for 'Song of The Year'." Michael whispered as if this was all a dream and he couldn't believe it.
Luke's chest glowed and he cried happy tears.
