I sat up in the tree, continuing to stare out into the forest. I had a very bad feeling about this spot but I couldn't just wake everyone up and tell them that.
I glanced down at Jocee, making sure she was alright. I wanted to help her but I can't fight the pain for her that lurked within her heart. Maybe I can find a way to ease it, or even replace it with something else....
"Chase... you still awake?" Broox asked in a whispering tone.
"Yeah." I said, looking down at Broox. "What's up?"
"Nothing... I'm just nervous..."
I nodded, looking back out into the forest.
"D-do you hear anything..?" Broox asked.
"No..." I said quietly. Out of nowhere, I sensed something was very, very wrong. "Broox, wake the others and tell them to be very quiet. Something is wrong" I said, slowly drawing my sword.
"I can't see anything, where are they?"
"Shhh!" I whispered, straining my eyes to see but there was nothing in sight.
"Chase..." Broox voice was fearful.
"I said to be quiet!" he growled, jumping down from the tree.
"Chase..." Broox repeated as his head lolled forward, his breathing was heavy.
I caught him in my arms and lowered him to the ground. "What?" I asked, glancing around.
"I can't move."
"Is it Pollux?" I asked, ripping another strip of cloth off from my shirt.
Broox froze for a moment, "Chase?" he said it like he didn't know I was there.
"Broox, I'm right here." I said, shaking him a little.
His breathing became violent, "Chase?"
"Broox! I'm right next to you." I whispered louder, shaking him multiple times.
"If that's you, write something on my back." he whispered.
"What?" I asked, confused.
"Write a word on my back if your Chase..."
I slowly lifted my hand and traced the word 'Nyx' on his back.
He calmed down but said nothing.
"Can you see anything?" I asked, keeping my hand on his back.
"Chase... I can't hear anything but voices..." Broox said.
"Just focus on my voice and your breathing." I said quietly
"I'm trying..." Broox squeaked.
"That's all I ask." I said, glancing around. "It'll be alright."
Broox grew silent, like you can't even hear him breathing silent.
"Talk to me Broox." I said, squeezing his shoulder. "What were you doing in the hallway the day I found you?" I asked, trying to take his mind off from the voices.
"I-I... was going home... it was the only time... I was gonna be able to see my dad for the rest of the year..."
"Tell me about your dad." I said, nudging Jocee and Destiny lightly.
Jocee groaned and woke up. "What is it?" she said, groggily.
"I... don't know... he's... never home..."
"What was your house like?" I asked. I looked at Jocee and lifted my finger to my mouth, telling her to be quiet. Jocee gave me look that said, 'Then why did you wake me?'
