It wasn't too long until I arrived in the less rural part of Mayweatler. It didn't look all that different. It wasn't that I had not been here since I was six. That wasn't the case at all, every other weekend, between the mix of school, I would go into town with Emilie. This was because we needed to get vegetables for supper. Now, I wasn't with Emilie. It was just me and Spirit, riding down the empty street. The sky had turned cloudy as I passed the gate of the palace. A guard had stopped me.
"What is your business here, miss?" To that I pulled off my hood.
"I am Princess Liliana. I am here to see my father."
"That's funny.."
I lifted my chin up like a snob.
"Do I look like I'm joking?"
"Maybe, miss. You look like you belong in some home." He turned to the other guard. "Am I right?" The other one laughed. Just then an older guard came and hit the young guards with a roll of paper.
"How dare you disrespect Maywealter's very own princess!" He turned towards me. "Very well, darling, come with me. A thousand apologies for the idiots." I had no choice but to follow him into the castle as he brought me to a giant hall. The hall was decorated with stained glass windows and pillars. On one window, there is a dark-haired woman holding a small baby in her hands. There's another window, that had sun shining through all of it so it sparkled. This one had a young king standing proudly, holding a scepter. Candles kept the room lit. From where I stood, I could see a velvet dark colored carpet. At the end of the carpet, was a red and gold throne. There sat my aging father, eyeing some gold coins. Without hesitation, he ran to me, throwing his arms around my neck. His red beard scratching my cheek.
"Liliana, you've come!"
There was so much I wanted to say to him. I had to resist the urge not to slap him. I could start by asking him why I don't live with him, but I know that. I could ask why I'm here. Yes, that will do.
"Hello, Father. Why am I here?"
"To connect with your royal heritage indubitably! What better way to do that then to throw you a...."
About fifty citizens came out from behind the pillars.
"SURPRISE!"
I was shocked. Why the actual hell would my father who discarded me as a child, suddenly want me back after all these years? It's nowhere near my birthday! Not that he would know. Something is strange about this whole situation and I will make sure I get to the bottom of it. Just then a few of my friends saw me and waved me over to them. I followed.

It was Elizabeth and Henry, the best friends a princess could ever ask for. They have ducked away from the crowd; in a secret corridor behind a wooden door. I entered and closed it behind me. The small room had cushions and blankets on the floor. There were several books and pens on a table in the back.

"You remember this place, right?" Henry asked me. Of course, I did. I used to play here with them when I still lived here. Before my mother's death. Everything was like I left it when I had to leave. Nothing had changed. My heart ached for a second. Nothing is better than childhood bliss.

"Yes, Henie, of course, I do. There are so many wonderful memories here."
"Ugh. Not that terrible nickname again."
"I missed you guys."
"Aw, Liliana, we missed you too." Elizabeth smiled.
"Do you guys happen to know what is going on? Why is there suddenly this big party for me? Last time I checked, Father couldn't give a damn about me."
Henry and Elizabeth exchanged looks.
"What?" I asked. Henry looked up at the ceiling. Elizabeth played with her blonde curls. They were hiding something.
Finally, Elizabeth spoke. "We don't know, maybe it is because he misses you or um uhh-". She looked to Henry for help. Oblivious, he stared at the ground. Elizabeth snapped her fingers and whispered, "HENIE!". That got his attention. "Oh, right! Your father probably wants to surprise you with a thing!"
"A thing? What kind of thing?"
"A big thing!" Elizabeth said excitedly.
"With pointy ears!" Henry said, nodding and smiling at Elizabeth. She face-palmed. At this point, we had left the room and made our way back to the party. They had left. Just then, an old woman turned to me.

"Congratulations, on the proposal, Princess. May your future be ever so bright."

"What? A proposal?!" Another woman smiled at me and said,

"Lovely Princess, you will look ever so lovely in the wedding gown."

"Wedding?!"
"Of course, my dear."
"I think you must be mistaken, I'm not getting married."
"Oh, but you are, and your husband will be no other than the charming elven prince himself."
With this, I stormed pass my father and brought him away from the crowd.
"What is the meaning of this?!"
"What?"
"How could you forget to mention to me about my own marriage?"
"I see you found out. Did those imbecile friends of yours tell you?"
"Of course not. Don't you ever speak of them in that manner again! What else don't I know?"
He sighed. "You leave in 20 minutes. Your friends have already packed your bags. Your fiancé is called Thranduil. He is the prince of The Woodland Realm. His father has recently died in battle. In order to become a king, he must find a princess to be his queen. You are that princess. Hurry now, say your goodbyes, you have less than 15 minutes."
"What?!"
"Do as I say or you'll regret it, Liliana." This was the side of my father that I remember. How could I be so fooled by his fake smile? He was evil. Surely he did this for a reason.
"Does this have to do with your money?"
"Believe me, this is in your best interest, Liliana."
"No, it is in yours. I will go, but please tell me if it is for gold."
"No."
"Don't you dare lie to me!"
"Trade will be better between our two kingdoms because of the wedding."
"I knew it." Tears threatened to come out of my eyes as I ran outside. Sure enough, there was a carriage waiting for me. Elizabeth and Henry held my bags and Spirit. They gave them to an elf that put them in the carriage. I looked at the two of them. Before a single tear could fall, I regained my posture and confronted my friends.
"I believe this is my goodbye."
"I'm so sorry, we couldn't tell you," Elizabeth said. "May your life be pleasant and wonderful."
"Thank you."
I looked at Henry, who blushed madly. He pulled me into a tight embrace. He pulled something out of his pocket. A beautiful necklace. He tied it around my neck.
"Never forget me, Liliana. If you ever need help, keep this by your side."

"Thank you, Henry

"Thank you, Henry. It's beautiful."
"Hurry! You need to go, Liliana! They're calling for you." Elizabeth said.
"Goodbye, I'll never forget you two."
"Wait!" I turned around. I was standing in the carriage already. Henry pulled me close. My feet were still touching the stairs. "I love you, Liliana. I will rescue you someday. I promise." He kissed my forehead. With that, he ran back and closed the carriage door.
