*Leigh's POV*
"Leigh! Get up! We have to feed the horses!" My brother yelled to me. I groaned in annoyance but got up anyways. I sometimes wonder how city people live their life without horses. I walk to my bathroom and dress into my barn clothes, which is a white t-shirt, a half sleeve plaid shirt, jeans, cowboy boots and I put my long blonde hair into a pony tail. I look at my reflection for a moment and rush down the stairs and out the door. I was on the school track team last year, thank the lord it's summer now. As I turn the corner I run dead smack into our stable hand, Kyle. I had to admit, he is very well built and has swishy hair. Oh how I love guys with swishy hair. "Sorry," I say getting up and dusting myself off. "I need to stop running into people." I chuckle. He was like my bestfriend, it's kinda like we can tell and feel each other's pain. He smiled, but it was gone almost as soon as it appeared. "What's wrong?" I ask concerned. "You didn't hear?" He asked. I swear I saw one tear fall. I had no clue what it was, but I've never, NEVER seen him shed a tear. Not one. "Your- mom di-died yesterday in a c-car wre-wreck." He said as he burst into tears. You see, this farm has a lot of history. Kyle's mom died, and his dad became very abusive and soon went to jail. He would have been put into a foster home, but our moms were very close. My mom filed for custody and she won. I couldn't say anything after he said that. He never lied to me, some silent tears escaped along with the word no. "No no no! She can't be dead!" I ran to pumpkins stall, mums horse. And burst into tears hugging her massive neck. She was a very feisty thing, that was the reason mom liked her. Dad is hardly ever home, he's at work. He works for an animal rescue. Pumpkins fiery eyes, seemed to die. She knew, horses are very smart. I then opened her stall door and she followed, obediently. I grabbed her saddle pad and put it on, the the saddle, and the bridal. I tacked her western, we were mostly western here. I put my cowgirl hat on and swung my self up. I heard hoofbeats behind me. It was kyle and grey. "I have to checks the fences." He said. I ran inside and grabbed my backpack that I always take. It has a first aid kit, horse treats, a extra halter, lead and a picture of us on all of our horses. I grab that from the tack room and rush and swing myself back upon pumpkin and nudge her to a trot. Tears blotting my vision, I kick her flanks slightly. She takes off full speed, faster than any other time she's ran before, I can tell if could cry, she would be right now. I hook the reigns over the saddle horn, she knows the way. "Run as fast as you can," I whisper and she goes faster I lift my arms out like a bird.
