Chapter 2

I made pumpkin stop, as I did not want her to run to much. We went on the woodland trail, and to get to the woods is to cross a street. I decided that I would walk to the store. Well not really a store, but like a gas station but without gas. It was fairly busy, so I decided I would make some money. I arrived soon enough, I couldn't stop thinking about my mom. She's gone. She's not next to me. She won't see me graduate. I sigh and hop off pumkin. I saw a little girl about 7 years old, I led pumpkin over. "Hi," was all she said before the little girl hid behind her mom. It reminded me of when I used to do that. I brushed it off as the little girl gave her mom a tug on her shirt. "Mommy can you see if I can ride the horsey?" It was very faint, but i still heard it. "My daughter, Julie, wants to know if she can ride your horse for a minute." She said. The little girl peeked out and slowly but surely came over to me. "Sure, we don't really have anything to do." I said. "Oh my, thank you. If not I don't know what I would have done! She won't stop talking about horses. How much would you like?" Said the mother. "I won't take more than $5." I say with a smile as I make pumpkin lean down so the little girl can pet her. "This is pumpkin, and im Leigh. Have you ridden a horse before?" She nodded her head no. "Ok well pumpkin is a very good horse, she won't let you fall," I say taking the reigns in my hand, just to let them hang will pumpkin shifts her weight. I signal her over. "Put your left foot in the stirrup, like that." I say demonstrating. She does and I say "now swing your right leg over." I instruct. I hold her left knee so she don't fall. "Hold the saddle horn," I say pointing. She does as I say and I take the reigns. "Would you like to take a picture?" I asked the mom. "Um, sure." She says. I smile and put the reigns in Julie's hands. "Just hold them." I say strictly. After thats done I take the reigns back and walk her around in the grass. Julie soon gets tired and I still want to go riding. The mom hands me the money and I help Julie dismount. "That was fun. I hope I see you again one day." Julie says and shows the brightest smile. She then runs to her car and leaves. Pumpkin was just grazing on some grass. I put the reigns over her saddle horn as I mount up. I hug her massive neck as she brings her head up. I just let her trot, after awhile she gets antsy so she takes off into a gallop. As we move, her mane and tail, and my blonde hair has fallen down so it lays straight, are flowing in the wind. I heard a sharp whinny bringing us out of our 'moment'. I am glad she was once a show horse, i haunted immediately. I heard it again and followed, we jumped a few logs before we came to a beautiful Meadow. It had tall weat going up to pumpkins chest. I saw the most beautiful stallion in my entire life. I dismount pumpkin, she is grateful and grazes. I get a few peppermints out of my backpack and a halter to claim him mine. He's a big, strong, and beautiful brown and white paint. He has some cream but not much. Pumpkins head popped up, ears pricked forward. She let out a low nicker, he heard it and was coming towards us. He was frightened when he saw me, but any wild horse would be. He was infront of pumpkin, he gave her a nuzzle. To my surprise, she nuzzled back. I saw this as my chance, I reached my hand out by pumpkin and gave her a peppermint hoping he will get the idea. He was skittish. I reached my hand out really slow. "Hey boy," I coo "want it? It tastes really good, she ate one." I say referring to pumpkin. He wouldn't take it from my hand, I bent down really slow, as soon as I could I lightly tossed the peppermint to him. He was alert, but curiosity got the best of him and sniffed it. " I guess I need a name for you, huh?" I say as I climb back on pumpkin. I thought about it for a few minutes, I remember mom and swallow the lump in my throat and blinked away the tears. "Mom always wanted a horse named Nexus..." I say mostly to myself. "I'll call you Nexus." I hold my hat and look up at the sun. It is about to get dark. I didn't want to risk him getting hurt, in one fluent motion I slipped the halter with the lead already connected over his massive head. He was startled but pumpkin looked at him, I have no clue what she did, but I think he has a major crush on her.
The house came into view, thankfully dad wasn't home. Yet.
