Not Without You - Stucky

Goodbye

Steve was lost,
Lost beyond words.

Bucky was finally with him, finally together with him again. And after all of that, Bucky willingly asked to be put back into cryogenic sleep.

Steve didn't know what he was going to do. He had already spent so long without Bucky by his side, and he felt like his insides were going to be torn out at the thought of waiting longer to be with the brunette.
But when he looked into Bucky's blue eyes, although he will never understand, he could see the tiredness dragging at the brunette, the slack face, which was once a shining star in the crowd, now a blank hollow shell of the man who once occupied it.

Steve could see Bucky was tired of fighting, maybe this was the best way.

The blonde walked into the room, electronics buzzed in the background and bright lights shone at him from all angles. The brunette was sitting on the side of the bed, one less arm than before Steve found him in that dingy flat in Bucharest.

Steve would make everyone who ever hurt Bucky pay.

But right now, he wanted to say goodbye to his best friend, wanted to tell him how much he loved him and that this was unnecessary, but he never found the words.

The two had a small chat as if they were going to see each other the next day.

"It's best for everyone" the brunette said looking down at his lap, sorrow emitting from his tearful look.

Before Bucky could continue speaking Steve wrapped his arms around him, as if he were holding on for dear life. Steve had told himself he wouldn't cry, that he had to be strong for Bucky. But no promises could be made at this moment as tears breached the rims of his eyes, slowly trickling down his face.

"I'm gonna miss you Buck, I'm gonna miss you so much" Steve whimpered into Bucky's shoulder.

The brunette didn't reply, but wrapped his arms tight around the blonde burrowing his face into Steve's hair.

"The procedure is ready" one of the doctors announced. Bucky slithered his way out of Steve's arms, walking towards the large tube.

Two nurses helped him in, then strapping the brunette into the machine.

"Don't do anything stupid 'till I get back" Bucky said to the blonde, noticing the sad look he was wearing plainly.
Steve looked up, his whole face lighting up because Bucky may not remember everything, but he remembered how to make Steve smile.

"How can I, you're taking all the stupid with you"

"Punk"

"Jerk"

Bucky smirked at Steve, Steve returning the smile until the nurse pulled the glass cover over Bucky's face.

The blonde watched as the screen turned to ice, and his once so lively friend, look as if he were dead.

Steve walked towards the glass, the doctors and nurses starting to clear out.

Steve touched his hand to the cold surface then leaning in his face so he could see Bucky through the frost.

"I love you Buck, I'll be here 'till the end of the line" Steve whispered.
