Steffan leaned forward, as though he was going to say some secretive manner and said" Not now" and grinned.
Ugh! That man is just unbearable. On hearing our groans, his face changed into a serious one." No, just listen to me. I'll tell you everything at the palace. The walls have ears and in my line of work a misplaced word can lead to the destruction of an entire kingdom ".
" Well " Ciel said with a sly smirk, "At least tell is how you captured Lady Katrine's heart!"
Steffan looked stumped for a moment. I was glad Ciel was slowly coming back to his real self. And that arrogant king needed deserved to be teased. It's just unfortunate that my sister would be caught in the crossfire. Steffan laughed. Katrine had buried her face in her hands, her ears red as a tomato's.
Now to make this more interesting . "Yes" I said " Pray, do tell us about how you got my obedient, goody- two shoes sister to elope with you."
"You two are horrible. Clarie, wait till you get a love interest. I'll...... I'll get my revenge then." My sister said and buried herself in sheets and put the pillows on her head.Steffan laughed till there were tears in his eyes. "Why, both of you are quite sly brats. I could surely use your attitude in my businesses"
"What business?" Ciel asked." Oh my security business, understand? " Steffan said with a spark in his eyes.
"But......." Ciel looked shocked. He stammered " Clarie and ......and I , we're .......we....are"
"Don't you two tell me that you are cursed. That's just nonsense and it's time the entire country accepts it. Don't you two know how misguided people are? It will be easy to decieve them. Your weakest attribute can turn into your strongest asset. Based on your appearances, no one shall suspect you of any mal intent. No one shall suspect you of deceit or loyalty or that you have a particular duty to fulfill."He leaned forward. He lowered his voice and whispered." You both are not cursed. You aren't half complete either. The name half complete is a misnomer. It just means that you have a destiny more special than the mundane people. I want you to help me. There are a lot of problems. My reign is not as flawless as it looks. It is balanced on a needle point, it can topple any moment. That is why I need the help of special people like you."
He looked at both of is, but his eyes seemed to linger on Ciel. There was a weird expression in his eyes as he stared into Ciel's gray ones. He looked as if he were in some sort of trance. He opened his mouth as to ask Ciel something. But then he suddenly seemed to come to his senses.
"So" he said, "What's your decision?"
I couldn't honestly speak. The man was either honey tongued or just plain loyal. He cared a lot about his subjects and my sister trusted him. But he and my sister were hiding something. They knew some secrets and Steffan knew something about Ciel. I didn't know who to trust, especially after Mary's betrayal."Can we think about it?" Ciel asked, breaking me out of my stupor. "Sure, tell me!e your decision once we reach the palace." Steffan said and looked at my sister. She was fast asleep. "Well," he said , getting up, "It's quite late and I think it's best that we retire. Come on boy " he went to my sister and kissed her forehead. Ciel snickered at my low growl. " Sweet dreams, Clarie" he said and pulled the king's shirt. "Come on your majesty , let's go" he said in a mocking voice and pulled Steffan out.
I closed the door and tried to fall asleep. But for some reason I couldn't. I kept tossing and turning and my mind kept revolving around Stefan's words. It was quite a warm night and the sky was a deep blackish blue. I was anxious, weary and a bit scared. Ciel and I ,could we really join the black hoods? Did we really have the potential? And our province, what had happened to my father? And the queen? How could she be evil? How could she betray her husband? And Dorian? His death haunted my thoughts. He couldn't possibly be gone. He was the one who had seen me at my lowest moment, brought me back from the brink of a hell of depression and self loathing.
I felt suffocated. I sighed and got up. Maybe walking around would calm my unsettled mind. I wrapped a shawl around myself and took a candle stand from the table. From a skill that was more from practice than anything else, I grabbed the doorknob with my teeth and pushed, kicking my foot on the door at the same time.
I walked to the balcony on the end of the floor. To my surprise I wasn't alone. In the moonlight stood a familiar figure, posture as straight as a rod and coal black locks swaying.
"Hey Clarie", the figure said without turning." Can't sleep either?"
I went and stood next to him and put the candle down. "Ciel " I began in a soft voice "About Dorian...." He stiffened. "Clarie" he cut in;" I think we should stop grieving over him". He had clenched his fists tightly. "Dorian, he wouldn't have wanted is to mope about his......his passage" he said in a slightly chocked voice. He took a shuddering breath."What do you think about the king's offer?" He asked suddenly. "I don't know, Ciel" I said, " We could use it to avenge Dorian and find an answer to this madness in our lives."
"You're right" he said quietly, "But do you think that we can do this?I think this is a good chance for you but I feel as though I'll just drag you down"I smacked him."Ouch! What was that for?" He screamed. "For being an Idiot" I replied " we're in this together whether you like it or not and we'll do this, got it?" I said punching his arm for good measure.
He smiled. Not that fake "I'm okay " type of smiles but a real one that lit up his face. "You , you are one of a kind, Clarie" he laughed. I felt my face heat up. Good thing he couldn't see me blush.
I took his hand in mine. He blinked, his grey eyes fixed on something in the distance." It's a promise", he whispered, " It's a promise that we'll fight together no matter what happens. We'll face that king and accept his challenge ""It's a promise that we'll face our future and not get caught by the past" I whispered back. He squeezed my hands and I could feel the weight of that pendant on my chest, reminding me of my obligations and responsibilities. But I won't back down, never let anyone crush me as long as I had Ciel by my side.
"So tomorrow we'll reach the castle huh?" He said. "Yes tomorrow we'll finally learn the truth" I replied.
We spent the night on the balcony, testing each other and remembering the old times. Sleep finally claimed us and we fell asleep , sitting on the floor, landing against the railing , anticipating our future and eager for our quest to find the truth.Hey!!!!! So guys please tell me how the chapter was? Did your teeth rot with all the fluff? Tell me your opinions please.
