"Ciel", I asked quietly, my words getting stuck and my voice hoarse. " Is Mary , is she really ........?" I couldn't finish. If Mary was Dorian's daughter , then she had just..... no , I couldn't think about that. There would be plenty of time to worry about my mentor after this ficaso. Now I have to be strong. But how could I? The person who told me to be strong was most probably critically injured or.... god forbid , even dead.
I looked at Ciel. Dorain meant the world to him. He was his hero, his idol. Ciel would be devastated. And I was hiding the news from him. I felt guilty as my gaze fell on him. He seemed to be in some thought. He was grubby and his best clothes were torn. His hair was a mess and his arms were covered with bruises . There was a bit of dried blood on his face. I couldn't discern whether it was his or someone else's. In short , he looked like a street waif rather than the son of a high ranking officer. I doubted I looked any better than him.
He suddenly seemed to shake himself of his thoughts. " Hey Clarie" his voice seemed a bit hollow. " Don't worry, I'll tell you everything. Just let us get away from here first. Now" his eyes seemed to focus themselves" Do you have your sword with you? " he said taking his own two daggers hidden in his long sleeves.
"Yes" I said hesitantly. " Good , now how are we shackled? I know it's on my foot because of the pressure there but does it have a key hole ? And what is the floor made of? " he said." Um... yes the shackles on both our legs have key holes and the floor is made of wood, I think. "
" Great ", he exclaimed" Looks like luck is on our side . Now do you have a hairpin?"
" Here" I said , raking my hand through my untidy hair and finding one. I realized , with a pang that Mary had tied my hair up only this morning . So much had happened since then. I put it in his hand wondering if he had lost his mind from shock.
"Now put my hand on the key hole" He said twisting it. I did as he told and he thrust the key in the lock and turned. For a second nothing happened and then it fell to a ground with a clatter."Whoa!" I exclaimed. " You're.... ". " It's too soon to rejoice. Now show me your leg" Ciel said and repeated the process with mine. Soon, it too fell down. The carriage or whatever it was that was carrying us was quite big. It seemed to be one for transporting animals. There were iron bars in front of us like a prison and we were separated from the others by some kind of partition. We were moving though. There was an occasional thump as the carriage moved over a rock or the neighing of a horse with the crash of a whip.
"Now listen" Ciel muttered, breaking my trance. " The floor's made of wood, right? If we saw through it with our weapons then we can make a small enough hole to slip through when it stops and replace the wood"
" But then, how do we hide the noise?" I asked. Ciel smiled. There was a sort of a mischievous glint in his eyes. Sort of like the ones before the pranks we used to play on the people we hated. "Well miss princess, how much spoiled do you think you can act? " he said. "Huh? Spoiled? What do you mean?"
" Well , we'll act as though the shock has finally got to you and you will act as though you are in a sort of a hysterical delusion. The noise will be enough to cover our work right?" He grinned. The idiot. How could he? But then, it was the least I could do after I roped him into this mess.
"Hey Princess? Oi are you alive? Your not responding huh? " Ciel said loudly and held out his hands with the daggers ready. I unsheathed my own sword and guided his hands to the right place raising my own voice and screaming insults at him.
And so a lot of time passed. We were almost finished when Ciel stiffened and motioned with his hands to put the shackles on us and hide our work.
Mary appeared almost instantly. "Shut up ,you wretched creatures" she screeched. I gave a realistic
gulp and closed my mouth."If I hear even a squeak from the both of you, I'll cut your tongues out. The queen ordered to bring you alive. I don't think she'll mind if you have one or two body parts missing." She cackled maliciously. "Oh! I forgot that you don't have some parts anyway. You're just two cursed beings."
I wanted to lunge at her. My eyes stung and blood pounded in my ears. How could I have trusted her? How could I have believed that there was someone in this world who genuinely liked me? I was about to attack her when I felt a pressure on my leg. I looked up. Ciel was looking straight ahead but was holding me back. His face was blank. Yes, Ciel was there and I couldn't afford to lose my temper here. Mary snickered at my seemingly hopeless condition and sauntered away.
Suddenly something pierced my thoughts like a sharp dagger. She had mentioned about the queen. Why would my own mother kidnap me? Nothing made sense. The attack must be related to this but everything seemed unreal. I felt horrible and the only thing that kept me from curling into a ball and sobbing was my best friend, the only person who hadn't abandoned me.....
