Ilia lay in bed next to his wife and just watched her sleep, her head turned towards him, her long blonde hair fanned out around her on the pillow and her left hand protectively sitting across her belly.
She was beautiful, his wife and he couldn't wait for the birth of their son, Aleksei. He had no doubts that she was going to be the best mother ever, he just hoped that he could rise to the occasion and be as good a father.
Sliding from bed, he made his way over to his wife's side of the bed and looked at his old bassinet. His mom had done a great job keeping it in perfect condition and now they would get to use it for her grandchild.
He ran his fingers across the soft fabric and tried to imagine their son laying there, looking up at them both, cooing and slobbering. Ilia scrunched up his nose wondering if he would be able to stomach changing his diapers or would he have to leave all that to Galina?
Shaking his head, there would be no discussion as to whether he could change them or not, he would because that's what father's do. They're supposed to be hands-on and even though his wasn't particularly, he would be and he would be the best at it.
"I know. I can't wait either" Galina's voice broke him from his thoughts. He turned to take in his wife. She was sitting up, her hair falling all around her and her right hand was doing a terrible job of keeping the sheet in place, when in fact it had slipped on the left side and he could see the profile of her ridiculous breast.
"Did you sleep well?" he asked her. "I did although I could probably eat and come right back to bed and sleep for hours. Just can't get enough of it these days" she said yawning and stretching her delectable body.
Ilia watched his wife fling the sheet from her body, get on her knees and walk over, on the bed, to where he was standing. She was sans any clothing of any type and her body was incredibly beautiful especially with the evidence of their child on the way.
He knew what she wanted and he wanted it to, so he took one step closer to the bed and drew his arms around her, pulling her to his chest. She was still needing that reassurance that he wasn't still mad at her.
"I love you, Galina" he told her, kissing the top of her head. She looked up at him, resting her chin on his chest and said "Do you really?" He didn't over think her phrasing of the question because he knew what she really needed to hear.
"There's not a minute that goes by everyday, that I cannot imagine my life without you. Even this house feels differently now that you're here. I watch how you interact with people and I see how they feel about and respect you for how you treat them.
I love the way you scrunch up your nose when you're talking about something distasteful, I love the way the slightest touch from you can set me at ease. I just love everything about you and now you are giving me a son. Something every man dreams about and you are giving this precious gift to me.
I don't know how to thank you for that other than to keep you safe but in order for me to do that, I need you to listen to me and not put yourself in undue danger. I get why you came for me and I can't even find the words that come close to expressing how it made me feel.
If I had any residual doubts about your love for me, they quickly disappeared after that night. People will tell you all the time 'yes I would give my life for you' but rarely do you ever get to see it in action.
Galina please promise me, baby, that you won't ever pull anything like that again. I still can't even get past you climbing down the trellis much less what you did at the warehouse. You're totally amazing and I love you for it."
She knew he'd been holding that in and she never did anything to stop him from finishing but she also knew that she would face this same thing from the rest of her family and she found she didn't mind at all.
"Ilia I promise you, before God, that I will never do anything like that again. I didn't realize everything that it might have cost us until I got to the warehouse and by that time, I had seen you and I wasn't leaving without you.
Now, having said that, will you allow me to feed you? I'm sure your hungry and I know I am and I want to fix us a huge breakfast and then do whatever you want for the rest of the day. I love you, baby and thank you for taking such good care of us" she finished.
He kissed her passionately one more time before swatting her on he bare ass and then walking to the bathroom for a shower. She smirked at him as she rubbed the tingly patch on her ass and decided that she actually liked how that felt.
Smiling to herself, she got out of bed, looked for her discarded panties and once she'd found them, pulled them on and then her dress.
"I'm heading to the kitchen now" she called into the bathroom. "I'll be down soon" her husband answered. But before she left, she gathered him a pair of black sweat pants and a black tank shirt and laid them on their bed.
Once Galina had reached the kitchen, she noticed that the house was still in slumber and wondered how many people had actually ended up staying through the night.
Well one thing that Zoya had always taught her and that was to be prepared, so she fixed a huge breakfast of scrambled eggs, homemade biscuits, sausage and bacon. She also started a fresh pot of coffee that would surely rouse the house.
Ilia was the first one to arrive in the kitchen. "The smell from up there was amazing" he said as he stole a piece of bacon from the plate. Galina jokingly smacked at his hand telling him that he'd lose it if he kept that up.
Tori and Max showed up next, they both still looked tired as most of the people involved in Ilia's rescue probably were. Galina felt like this was the best way, through her actions, to thank everyone that came to their aid.
Roman, Yuri and Erik were next to make an appearance, as were five other men that Galina didn't know. It felt like home, having her family gathered around her in the kitchen, talking and laughing and everyone of them were trying to steal her bacon off the plate!
The conversation was light and full of laughter as people took turns loading up their plates and when everyone had their fill, Galina got her a plate, filled it and took her place by Ilia.
When he stood, everyone got quiet. "I just wanted to say, looking around this table at you all, how blessed and lucky I am to call you my family. Tebe (To you)" he said, somewhat emotional and then sat down.
The table came alive once again, everyone talking and laughing at once and suddenly it became clear to her that she did in fact have everything that she needed and it was right here, under one roof. Yeye sem'ya (Her family).
