Ilia stood next to Galina, as she laid on the examination table, waiting for Dr. Markov. He could tell that she was nervous and by laying a calming hand on her shoulder, he felt her relax under his touch.
Leaning over he kissed her several times on the cheek and was rewarded with her smile. He was about to go and fetch the good doctor when he came bursting into the room.
"Sorry I'm late folks" his accented voice exuding personality and enthusiasm. "Now, Mrs. Galina, I need to ask you some questions. Okay?" he started.
Galina nodded her head. "Firstly, when was your last period?" he asked, pen poised above paper. "Six weeks ago" she answered honestly. Making some notes, he prepared another question.
"I'm assuming you took a test?" he asked. Galina nodded. "Any morning sickness?" he fired another question at her. "Yes. It seems to hit first thing in the morning and then the rest of the day I'm fine" was her answer to this question.
"What about fatigue?" he asked her. "Yes. I seem to be more tired these days" was her reply. "Hmm" he said making some more notes.
"Any incidents concerning your heart?" he asked. She shook her head. "Not since the kidnapping" she told him.
"Okay. Good, good" he murmured, still making notes. "Now Zoya had furnished me with your medical records about a year ago. That woman was something else" he recalled fondly. "I guess she saw your union down the road.
I want to do a trans vaginal sonogram first and then we can start discussing your care, okay?" he asked. Galina nodded as the good doctor got up from his chair and grabbed some latex gloves.
Taking a condom from the drawer, he started to explain that in the early stages of pregnancy, you do an internal sonogram as the fetus is too small for the regular belly sonogram.
"It will feel a little invasive at first" he told her. "Just try and relax. I will be moving the wand around trying to get the best angle on your baby" he said smiling.
Ilia watched his wife take a deep breath and immediately he watched her body start to relax. "Good girl" Dr. Markov remarked. His left hand was manipulating the wand while his right hand clacked on the keyboard.
"I would estimate that you did conceive about six weeks ago. The egg sac and fetus look great. Here, see? This little caterpillar-looking creature is your baby" he said smiling at the couple.
They watched in awe, as the doctor made and took some more measurements while typing it into the computer. Ilia saw the tears running down his wife's cheek. He leaned down and whispered "It's amazing and beautiful, just like you."
He took in her gorgeous eyes as they sought his out, every emotion that was running through her came out through her eyes. She was very happy and he could tell.
When Markov finished, he instructed Galina to go back into the little room, dress and then come back out so they could start their discussion on her care.
Once she was done, Ilia stood up and offered his chair to her while he stood behind her. "Because your heart is not as strong and healthy as say, Ilia's, I am going to put you on light bed rest and light duty.
I want to track how you are doing at least until the end of your first trimester since that is the most important time. Once you've made it through that hurdle, we can discuss whether I want to continue on with that way of thinking or allow you a little more freedom.
You told me the last time you took your heart medication was when you were kidnapped, so what I want to do with that is have you not take it if possible. Try to stay out of strenuous situations and if you find yourself in one, just do some deep breathing and see if you can control the attacks that way.
I also want to see you once a week, just as a precaution. Your blood work and other tests look fine. Your color looks good and so does your weight, although I would like to see you gain a few more pounds. Now, any questions for me?" he asked, letting his onslaught of information sink in.
"What are you thoughts on prenatal vitamins?" Ilia asked Dr. Markov. Snapping his fingers, Markov opened his desk drawer and pulled out a bottle.
"One in the morning, make sure you take with food or you'll taste it all day and it might upset your stomach. Any time you feel nauseous or dizzy, lay down, close your eyes and try to lay still. I think you'll do fine in this pregnancy, Galina. Call me if you need anything at all, okay?"
Handing them the vitamins and the copies of their sonogram, Ilia and Galina left the office and started walking back to the main house.
He enjoyed watching the range of emotions on his wife's face as she stared at the black and white photos of their baby.
"It's beautiful, isn't it detka?" he asked breaking the silence. She looked up at him, stopping mid-stride and turned to face him. Placing her hands on his chest, she asked him to kiss her.
Bowing his head, his lips made contact with hers, her body humming with electricity from their kiss. "Hmm" she said after pulling back from him. "Thank you husband" she said. "You're very welcome, wife" he responded as they started walking again.
"Will you take a bath with me when we get back to the house?" she asked innocently. Ilia nodded. "I have a couple of things to talk with Max about, but you go up and start it and then I will join you, okay? Light some candles and put on some music if you want" he told her, kissing the top of her head.
He took her in as she ascended the stairs to their room. The feeling of happiness that filled his heart and mind was overwhelming. He'd never experienced those emotions before and to know that one woman, his woman, and his child had something to do with that, couldn't have made him happier.
Maxim, Pavel, Roman, Yuri and Erik were all waiting for him in his study when he arrived. The men stood, out of respect for their boss, and then took their seats when he sat down.
"First off gentlemen" Ilia started. "We are six weeks pregnant and mother and child are doing fine. Pictures" he said, sliding them across the desk at the men.
"The doctor said that her heart shouldn't be a factor, but he is putting her on light bed rest and light duty for the first trimester. We also have to see him every week for that same period, just because he wants to keep an eye on everything and make sure her heart isn't being stressed."
Pavel stood up and went and grabbed a bottle of vodka and five glasses. Pouring each man a healthy shot, he raised his glass towards Ilia and said "Pozdravleniya! (Congratulations)" Each man responded with their own sentiment and then they got down to business.
All shipments had made it in, were received and payment received. The clubs were doing nicely as well. The only thing that concerned the men at this desk was Andre Petrov. They had received word from Roman Ivanshov that he was running off at the mouth and threatening Ilia, Galina and their child.
"I do not want Galina knowing about any of this" he warned. "She spent all morning worrying about me, the baby and that piece of mudak (shit). We will handle this discreetly. I mean it. Do not mention this to her at all. Are we clear?"
The men all nodded, knowing exactly what their boss was asking of them and they would fulfill his wish. None of the men in that room, including Ilia, wanted their queen to worry or be in danger.
Ilia was afraid it might come down to something happening between him and Petrov, but he would cross that bridge when he came to it. Right now, his beautiful and naked wife was probably in the tub waiting on him and he couldn't wait to have her body close to his.
"Keep me apprised" Ilia said. "Now, if there is nothing else, I am going to take care of my wife. We should be down later for dinner. Just let Pierre know that we will eat at seven instead of six. He'll understand. Thank you gentlemen and I will see you at dinner."
